Everyone wants great skin and while some people naturally have it, most have to work hard to maintain a clear complexion. While topical remedies or “detox” diets may bring temporary relief, chances are your skin condition will resurface at some point.
Many experts agree that skin problems are usually linked to four primary areas of your life
- Digestion dysfunction
- Hormone imbalances
- Toxicity or
- nutrient deficiencies
Here are some basic tips about each:
The link between the skin and digestive system has become well known over the past few years. Antibiotics are often used to treat skin problems and if you’ve paid any attention to your skin while using antibiotics then you know how your skin glowed.
The problem with taking antibiotics is that it kills both good and bad bacteria. The bad bacteria do seem to cause many skin issues but until you clear up the underlying issue through healthy diet and lifestyle choices, then you’re likely going to keep facing the same complication.
Males and females all have the same hormones albeit in different ratios. Just a small shift in hormone levels can change how you look and feel. The link between hormone levels and skin problems is seen primarily in children going through puberty or through use of anabolic steroids.
The skin requires several different nutrients to be healthy and to look its’ best. Although it may seem unlikely, nutrient deficiencies are actually quite common. Nutrient deficiencies can also occur due to an inefficient digestive system and they may cause an imbalanced hormonal system. As you can see, the entire body works together.
You need to allow your body to be able to receive these nutrients. That's why detoxification is important.
The human body is exposed to toxins all day. The air we breathe, the water we drink, and the chemicals we use all have toxins. Our body has mechanisms to rid our body of these toxins such as our kidneys and liver.
Unfortunately, these parts of our body become overwhelmed and overworked by toxins. Healthy diet choices are the only way to cleanse the body and purge the body from these toxins.
All four of these areas of your body work together and are needed for your skin to stay clear and healthy. So what can you do to make sure your skin is clear?
10 Steps To Clear Skin
Here are ten things you can do to make sure your skin stays clear.
1) Avoid Foods That Cause Discomfort: Foods that cause headaches, stomachaches, or joint pain likely do so because of your body’s sensitivity to these foods. Gluten, soy, corn, and are all common types of food that can set off a chain of events that will lead to skin problems.
2) Avoid Taking In Too Much Fiber: While fiber is good for you and does have several benefits, too much fiber can cause a variety of issues. High fiber diets may cause inflammation and can feed bad bacteria in the gut. You’ll still want to consume the recommended amount of fiber each day but avoid consuming too much fiber.
4) Use A Low Starch Diet: Humans consume two main carbohydrate sources – sugar and starch. Starch can be difficult to digest for some people so consider eating more fruits or drinking more fruit juice instead of starch.
5) Avoid Polyunsaturated-Fatty Acids: In many cases, these fats act as prooxidants and can cause severe skin inflammation. Coconut oil, vegetable oil, and canola oil are the popular sources of polyunsaturated fats.
6) Maintain Your Blood Sugar Levels: When you skip meals you create a stress response in the body. Stress alone can cause skin issues and this is compounded when your body looks internally for fuel. It can also slow your metabolism and cause hormonal imbalances, so keep your blood sugar levels steady.
7) Keep Your Hormones In Check: The thyroid helps control your hormonal levels and also plays a vital role in metabolic function. Make sure to correct any thyroid problems and make sure your thyroid is operating as it should be so your thyroid can keep your metabolism and hormones in check.
8) Relax Your Mind And Body: Physical and mental stress can both cause problems with your skin so take the time to rest each at least once a week. Take a quiet walk in the park, go get a massage, or take a relaxing Epsom salt bath. These will help you relax.
9) Eat A Balanced, Nutrient-Dense Diet: Most people have some sort of nutrient deficiency especially when on a restrictive diet. Make sure you eat nutrient dense foods and make sure to eat a variety of woods to make sure you consume ALL of your essential vitamins and minerals each day.
10) Rest Well Each Night: Sleep is essential to every aspect of your health, including your skin. Sleep helps to balance your hormones and helps relieve the stress on your body each night. Your body also repairs itself at night so getting eight hours of shut-eye each night will help your skin heal so you can wake up with glowing skin that makes you look younger.
In today's world, many men and women are obsessed with the condition of the skin, especially as they start to age. Unfortunately, there are many instances in life where a person is judged by their skin texture or fine lines and wrinkles, which may prompt people to better care for their skin.
Skincare Tips For Every Age Bracket

It’s not only what you apply to your skin that can affect changes on the skin, but also what you decide to inhale, eat, or drink. Did you know that the components present in any chemical you apply to your body can create many changes too?
If you apply makeup and any other skin care products, then the necessary cleaning should take place to ensure no traces of harmful chemicals are getting into your skin before you go to bed each night. Professionals advise of a thorough cleaning of your skin immediately so you are satisfied with the result of the makeup you are using.
The use of water is encouraged as well, as it is natural and features excellent minerals to protect your skin.

Most girls in their early teens will begin to apply makeup if they already haven't sooner, and this calls for the initiation of a solid skin care routine. It’s always known that the skin of a young woman starts to make changes around the ages of 18, and this is the time you will need to look for the necessary skin care measures for your skin.
At this age, many factors contribute to the changing texture of the skin, and these include what we eat, drink, weather changes, as well as what we apply on the skin, such as makeup. For instance, when a girl starts to apply mascara and makeup on the eyes, it’s recommended that the makeup should be removed and cleaned using micellar water, which has natural ingredients for cleansing the eyes and the face because hydration is very important.
This care routine begins as the skin makes changes. When skin inflammation first starts, it can usually be a hard time for most people that love their skin. This age also comes with an oily skin, which is sometimes disturbing.
Milk products are highly encouraged to aid in reducing the excess oil on the skin. Products with anti-inflammatory agents are also encouraged to ensure total skin care is implemented.
Dry skin should be cleaned with milk-based products, and one should take a step to consult cosmetologists for further help, if needed. If you choose to purchase over-the-counter products, it is important to purchase from reputable brands and retailers.

You should read carefully on the instructions of any product that you use and test a small area of the skin first before applying it all over the eye area.

5 Simple Home Cures for Dry Skin
Dry skin is one of the most common skin issues people deal with, especially in the winter when the air is dry. Parched, flakey skin isn't pretty to look at and it's uncomfortable! Some people develop intense redness and skin irritation due to the constant itching. Fortunately, there are simple home cures for dry skin that can help ease the itching and restore a healthier moisture balance to your skin.
It's an old-fashioned remedy, but studies show an oatmeal bath can soothe dry irritated skin and ease the itching. Oatmeal contains compounds called aventhramides and beta-glucan that have anti-inflammatory activity. That's why so many commercial baths for itchy skin have oatmeal as an ingredient.
You don't need to spend money on a commercial product when you can do it yourself. Just add old-fashioned oats to a high-speed blender and convert the oats into a fine powder. Add the powder to a cup of warm water and then pour it into your next bath. Make sure the water temperature of your bath isn't too hot. Water that's too warm is irritating to dry, sensitive skin and can make the problem worse.
Coconut oil isn't just for cooking. A study published in the International Journal of Dermatology found that virgin coconut oil improved dry, irritated skin due to eczema, a common skin condition that causes intense itching. In fact, coconut oil was superior to mineral oil for alleviating dryness and itchiness.
How can you use this simple home cure for dry skin? Place a tablespoon between your hands and rub your hands together to soften the texture. Apply the soothing oil to dry, itchy areas. Then, remove the excess with a soft cotton towel. A good time to apply coconut oil is after a bath.
Extra-Virgin Olive Oil
Olive oil is rich in healthy fats and natural anti-inflammatory chemicals called phenols. Apply this rich, golden oil lightly to dry skin areas. If you have dry, flakey skin on your hands or feet, rub on a thin layer and wear gloves and sock to keep the oil in contact with your skin. Leave the gloves or socks on for an hour and then remove them. Always use high-quality oil as cheaper bottles may contain additives that irritate the skin.
A small study showed that aloe vera helps alleviate dry skin. In the study, participants who applied aloe vera to dry, irritated skin experienced improvements in skin dryness and redness. The subjects wore special gloves that delivered aloe vera to the skin, but you can make your own. Simply apply aloe vera gel to dry, irritated areas and cover them with gloves or socks to enhance contact with the skin. You can even leave the gloves and socks on overnight.
Increase the Humidity of Your Home
Dry skin is more common in the winter because the air is dryer. A dry home can dehydrate your skin and cause the skin to flake and itch. Add a humidifier to your home to increase the moisture content of the air. Studies show that keeping indoor humidity around 60% can help with skin problems related to excessive dryness.
A Word of Caution
Talk to your physician if you have persistent dry skin. In some cases, dry skin can be a sign of an underlying medical problem, such as an underactive thyroid gland. But, hopefully, you'll get relief from these simple home remedies and will be free of dry, irritated skin!
