Dr. Oz is a particular supporter of lemon juice. Make your own lemon juice by squeezing the juice from half a lemon into a glass of hot water in the morning. This can kickstart your metabolism and some people even call it a “wake up call for the liver.” Reportedly, the sour lemon flavor triggers hormones and nerves in the liver and digestive system, which encourages your organs to be more active.
Other Herbs and Supplements
You’ll find a wide range of liver detox herbs and supplements available online, including dandelion riot, methionine, zinc, crab apple, turmeric, Brussels sprouts, St. Mary’s Thistle, Diatomaceous Earth, and herbal bitters. Some people also claim that garlic and cruciferous vegetables like broccoli can help cleanse the liver.
One Day Liver Detox Juice Fast
Following the lessons listed above is a good way to give your liver a break for a week or more at a time. Some people, however, are more interested in fast-acting short-term juice fasts.
Here’s an example of one popular one-day liver detox juice fast:
Make a “Miracle” Juice
Miracle liver detox juices typically consist of a juice like cranberry water or unsweetened cranberry juice. Some people will also dilute the cranberry juice with filtered water. Make sure you choose cranberry juice that is free from sugar, corn syrup, and other artificial flavors or processed sugars.
Then, add natural herbs and compounds to your juice to increase its liver cleansing effectiveness. Many people add cinnamon, ground ginger, nutmeg, freshly squeezed orange juice, and freshly squeezed lime juice to their cranberry juice, for example.
Boil your Miracle Juice
Some people will also boost the effectiveness of their miracle juice by boiling the cranberry water beforehand. If you’re doing this, bring the cranberry water/juice to a light boil and then reduce the heat to low. Add cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg to the water using a tea ball. Or, if you want a stronger taste, add the foods directly to the liquid. Then, let the juice simmer for 15 to 20 minutes and cool to room temperature. Finally, stir in the lemon and orange juices.

Throughout the day of your cleanse, alternate between drinking one cup of filtered water and one cup of your miracle juice. Aim to have 8 glasses of miracle juice and 8 glasses of water by the end of the day (drink one cup every hour).
Consider Adding a Fiber Supplement
As mentioned above, a good liver detox cleanses your kidneys and colon at the same time. That’s why many people will add a fiber supplement to their one day juice cleanse. Consider adding psyllium husks (1 to 2 teaspoons in each 8 ounce glass) to your juice to support healthy digestive movement.
If you want to increase fat burning during your cleanse, then engage in light exercise. Don’t push yourself too hard – because remember, your body will be low on calories. Go for a 20 minute walk or spend 10 minutes on the elliptical machine.
The idea behind a short-term juice fast is that you reduce the workload on your body. Then, your body can use its extra energy to heal and regenerate parts of the body. Limiting your caloric intake for an entire day gives your body a valuable break from a lifetime of eating.
