GRAYL – The Water Purification and Filtration Bottle

The Grayl Ultralight Review

The Grayl is a water filtration system that kind of works like a French press. Here’s our review of The Grayl.

What is The Grayl?

The Grayl, found at TheGrayl.com, claims to be the world’s best water purification and filtration system.

The system comes in a little bottle and can clean water in fewer than 15 seconds. Launched in 2012, Grayl has sold a handful of different filters over the years. Early in 2016, Grayl launched The Grayl Ultralight, which promises to offer the same powerful filtration at a lighter weight and more compact design.

After a successful Kickstarter campaign, the Grayl is now being distributed to the general public. At the time of writing, Grayl’s manufacturer had received $111,000 of its $25,000 goal. Backers who pledged $45 received one bottle, although the filters typically go for between $60 and $80.

How Does The Grayl Work?

The Grayl claims to have been released after 4 years of extensive research and development. The Grayl Ultralight purifier and filtration bottle is the result of all that hard work.

Here are some of the key features of The Grayl:

— 10.9 Ounces
— Antiviral Protection
— Claims To Improve The Taste, Odor, And Clarity Of Water
— Specially Engineered For Harsh Environments
— Press One Button And You Can Drink Your Water In As Little As 15 Seconds
— No Batteries, Uv Bulbs, Chemicals, Pumping, Sucking, Or Squeezing Required

The one press filtration system also claims to eliminate 99.9999% of all viruses, 99.9999% of bacteria, and 99.999% of protozoan cysts while also filtering particulates, chemicals, and heavy metals from your water.

Each Grayl replaceable purifier cartridge lasts for 300 uses.

How Does The Grayl Filter Water?

The Grayl filters water in just 15 seconds with barely any work required on your end. Here are the step by step instructions as provided by the manufacturer:

Step 1) Fill to indicated fill line, whether it’s water from a stream, lake, hotel sink, bathroom, or wherever

Step 2) Press on the ground, below 20 inches, applying a steady downward force onto the top of the bottle (kind of like you’re pressing down a French press to make coffee)

Step 3) Drink your purified water after 15 seconds

Instead of relying on standard mechanical filtration, The Grayl Ultralight is

“powered by a patented game-changing electroadsorptive media capable of removing submicron pathogens and inorganic contaminants.”

That filter includes three different processes:

— Electroadsorptive Media: Captures pathogens and inorganic contaminants “like a magnet”.

— Ultra-Powdered Activated Carbon: Filters more impurities and toxins like chemicals and heavy metals better than a block of granulated carbon. The ionized carbon attracts particles and sucks them from the liquid.

— Silver-Treated Zeolites: These are natural antimicrobial agents that keep the purifier fresh between uses – so even if you’re approaching your 300th use of the water filter, your water should still taste fresh and clean.

The system is also made from BPA-free materials.

One of the main complaints about previous Grayl products is that they were a little too heavy. True to its name, The Grayl Ultralight has targeted that problem and reduced the weight by about half.
