Versafibe – Insoluble Dietary Fiber Health Benefits Ingredient?

It’s definitely no secret that fiber is an integral part of any balanced diet. Fiber is essential for digestive health and maintaining a healthy body weight. However, you might be surprised to learn that the average person is not getting enough fiber in their daily diets.

In response to a demand for fiber-rich products and to help consumers get enough fiber with their diets, a number of nutritional companies have introduced various dietary fibers into the nutritional market. Versafibe is one of such dietary fibers.

What Is Versafibe?

Ingredion, INC, Versafibe’s parent company, currently offers two different dietary fiber products under the brand name – Versafibe 1490 and Versafibe 2470. Both of the Versafibe products have main ingredients that are insoluble resistant starches. Versafibe is best used in low-moisture foods like as bread, crackers, cookies, pasta, and noodles. Ingredion touts its Versafibe products as low-cost, easy-processing fiber fortification with water-holding capacity akin to foods like wheat flour.

Versafibe is available to consumers, but the majority of the product’s demographic might be food manufacturers. By adding Versafibe to their products, this could enable food manufacturers to add labels like “good source of fiber,” “excellent source of fiber” and “gluten-free,” to their packages.

These various distinctions play a role in the decision-making process that shoppers go through at their local grocery store. Versafibe is certified non-GMO, kosher and Halal, which can also be a big selling point.

The Versafibe 1490 dietary fiber product is potato-based and the Versafibe 2470 dietary fiber is corn-based. Ingredion makes the claim that their Versafibe products will not impact the taste, texture or color of any food it is added to.

According to Ingredion, the Versafibe 2470 dietary fiber product has total dietary fiber level of 70% on a dry solids basis. They make the claim both products improve expansion in extruded products and are best suited in foods that involve processes that are high-temperature and shear processing.

Versafibe 1490 dietary fiber is grain-free, providing a minimum total dietary fiber level of 85% in dry solids basis. According to Ingredion, their Versafibe 1490 dietary fiber product will improve the texture of foods such as crackers, cereal, pastas and other snacks in a manner that is similar to white flour, but with much more added fiber from the product.

Versafibe Review Summary

Ingredion Incorporated adds Versafibe to a variety of dietary fiber products that they already offer for health and nutrition. One of their biggest successes is the HI-Maize, which is a resistant starch, which various organic and natural foods companies have used as a clean alternative for blood sugar management and energy.

Ingredion has also been successful with Nutraflora prebiotic soluble fiber that is popular for digestive support. With the success of the other fibers, it definitely seems like Ingredion’s claims about Versafibe are accurate and supported by the science and favored by both home consumers and food manufacturers alike.

It would also appear that the Versafibe product is safe and healthy to eat and that the products do in fact increase the fiber content of foods with no noticeable difference, just like the company claims. The Versafibe products are very versatile and can be added to a number of different foods to increase the fiber content.
