Sakara – Ready To Eat Organic Plant-Based Nutrition Meal Plans?

on

Sakara Life, also known simply as Sakara, is an organic meal delivery program currently being promoted by Iman, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Victoria Secret models. Here’s our Sakara review.

What Is Sakara?

Sakara is a New York-based meal delivery service launched by two friends. The company promises to deliver meals based on a whole food, plant-rich diet filled with fresh, nutrient-dense ingredients. Whitney Tingle and Danielle Duboise, who met in 7th grade in Arizona, founded Sakara in their Brooklyn kitchen in 2013. They started by delivering colorful vegan meals by bicycle.

Today, business is booming. The company recently purchased a 10,000 square foot kitchen in Brooklyn. The company claims to have delivered hundreds of thousands of meals across the Northeast. They also recently added Southern California to their delivery area.

At $100 per day, Sakara is one of the priciest meal delivery services available. It’s not designed for the average consumer – it’s designed for people who are willing to pay a high price for convenience and healthy food. With that in mind, let’s take a look at how Sakara works.

How Sakara Life Works

Sakara has many of the same traits as other meal delivery programs available today, including:

  • Ready-made meals are delivered three days a week
  • Each delivery contains food for up to 3 meals per day (depending on your subscription option)
  • Prices start at around $100 for one day
  • You can save money by ordering larger packages of 5 or 20 days
  • There are no deliveries on weekends, which is when subscribers are encouraged to create their own healthy meals
  • Food is based on a locally-sourced menu
  • All meals are delivered in an insulated bag with ice packs; each meal box has a description of the foods it contains, including the “super foods” inside, and what those super foods can do for your body
  • Deliveries also include small motivational quotes, poems, and other words to get you through the day

Overall, the company promises to do all the work for you. You don’t have to think what the day’s meals are going to look like. Sakara delivers them to you. The meals are specially chosen to provide a hefty dose of your daily nutritional requirements.

Sakara puts a huge emphasis on health. They claim many of their patients are people with autoimmune diseases, cancer, or other conditions. “We have the most amazing testimonials from cancer patients and people with autoimmune diseases on how our food has helped them”, explained Danielle in an interview with Forbes.

“One of our clients has painful tumors all over his body and he lost his mobility. He traveled the world seeking treatments, and in three months of eating Sakara Life he got his mobility back. He wrote us that we were the best food doctors in the world.”

Sakara’s nutritional value is based on real science: prior to launching the company, Danielle went to school to become a certified holistic nutritionist.

 Sakara Pricing

Sakara offers two options: a Trial Program and a Subscription.

Trial Program

The Trial Program lets you try Sakara for 3 days or 5 days. Here’s how pricing works:

3 Day Trial: $265 ($255 + $10 shipping)
5 Day Trial: $420 ($410 + $10 shipping)

Your trial comes with three meals per day (breakfast, lunch, and dinner by default), but can be customized to your needs (pricing will adjust based on your customization options. The trial comes with bottles of water and Sakara tea along with your three meals.

Subscription

You can subscribe to Sakara to save a little bit of money. Here’s how pricing works on the trial program:

3 Day (Subscription): $239
5 Day (Subscription): $349

Delivery is included in the price with the subscription program. Whatever program you choose, your meals will arrive in 3 deliveries on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday (or the night before, depending on your location).

Even if you choose the 5 day plan, you’ll still receive 3 deliveries per week (they’re just larger deliveries). The meals are delivered ready-to-eat and can be eaten cold or heated up. All meals arrive in insulated tote bags.

Sakara Summary

Priced at over $100 per day, Sakara isn’t a meal delivery program for everyone. You’re paying about $30 each for a cold meal that comes in a plastic container. Sakara sells customers on the idea of convenience and healthiness: the meals come with whole foods and organic ingredients. They’re designed to meet your nutritional needs while being low in calories.

Gwyneth Paltrow and Victoria’s Secret Angels reportedly like Sakara. The company also claims to be popular among those who have been diagnosed with a medical condition and need to become healthier.

Based on reviews online, Sakara appears to work as advertised to deliver healthy, whole food meals to your address. It’s up to you to decide if it’s worth the $100 a day price tag.
