O2Pur is an e-cigarette system that promises to provide you with a daily dose of nicotine without the unpleasant sensation of a cigarette. O2Pur comes in the form of a vape system. Using the O2Pur, you can enjoy a smoke-free nicotine experience that doesn’t contain tar, and doesn’t give you yellow teeth or smelly clothes.

O2Pur is made by a Holladay, Utah-based company. That company started advertising its O2Pur system – including the free starter kit offer – in radio and television advertisements in 2015. The company was created by the same people responsible for the Vapex scam in 2014. Vapex later received an $800,000 fine for false advertising.

What’s the Catch Behind the Free Starter Kit?
You’re probably here because you’re wondering whether or not the O2Pur free starter kit is a scam. That starter kit is advertised as being “free” with a $5 purchase. The company claims to give you a free kit, free shipping, a free coil, and even a free $100 gift card with your purchase.
Obviously, all of these things sound pretty good. But just like with anything that’s free on the internet, you know there’s going to be a catch. You don’t see that catch until you get to the ordering page. Here’s how the “scam” works:
- At the final ordering page, you’ll be told you have to purchase 2 Replacement Atomizers that cost a total of $14.99, plus a $4.95 shipping and handling fee
- After your purchase is confirmed, you’re automatically subscribed to the company’s monthly subscription. That monthly subscription is ridiculously expensive: it will automatically charge your card $69.95 per month for shipments of e-juice and replacement atomizers.
The specific nature of this scam has varied since O2Pur was released back in 2016. The scam became so big that Truth In Advertising (TINA.org) got involved. TINA sent a letter to Utah customer protection officials alerting them of the scam. TINA also claims the company edited their terms and conditions page to protect themselves.
About O2Pur
Who’s responsible for the O2Pur scam? O2Pur is made by a Utah-based company named Alpha Vending, LLC. That company also does business under the name O2Pur.
In January 2017, the owner of the company, Scott Barth, settled with Utah officials and agreed to pay $40,000 in fines and issue full refunds to consumers who were charged through the scam.
There are multiple Scott Barths living across the United States, and there are even multiple Alpha Vending, LLC companies. The company was profiled in The Salt Lake Tribune last year in an article titled, “Watchdog group claims e-cigarette company back to old, illegal tricks”.
Prior to launching O2Pur, Scott Barth had an even shadier past. When the O2Pur commercials came out, many realized the free kit offer sounded similar to an older company called Vapex. In 2014, Utah’s Consumer Protection Division fined Vapex $822,500 for false advertising. Regulators forbid Vapex from doing business in Utah, although the fine was later reduced to around $20,000.
Scott Barth was a Vapex executive. By operating O2Pur, he and another Vapex executive Kourtney Salavatori have purportedly “violated the terms of their settlement with the state by continuing to mislead customers” explains The Sale Lake Tribune.

O2Pur Reviews: What Do Customers Have to Say?
O2Pur appears to have hired a bunch of actors to provide “compelling” testimonials on its official website. The company targets its products to people who want to stop smoking. In any case, the testimonials on the official website are overwhelmingly positive in support of O2Pur.
Unfortunately, reviews across the internet for O2Pur are mostly from users who have been scammed by the company and left with hundreds of dollars of hidden credit card charges. You can find multiple pages dedicated to the company on PissedConsumer.com, for example, where 362 reviewers claim they lost $17,000 from the company, with an average reported loss of $378.
O2Pur also has a dismal “F” rating from the Better Business Bureau.
One user on Reddit who did receive the vaping system called it “just awful” and claimed the flavors were “like a really bad Jolly Rancher”. So even if O2Pur wasn’t a scam, the e-juices don’t appear to be worth the high price tag.
Should You Buy O2Pur?
O2Pur is a scam created by Scott Barth, a Utah resident who previously operated another scammy company called Vapex – which received a fine of $822,500 from the Utah Consumer Protection Division for false advertising. The scam was investigated by Truth In Advertising and widely reported by The Salt Lake Tribune.
After his original company, Vapex, was fined for misleading customers, Scott decided to violate the terms of his settlement and launch a new e-cigarette scam under the name O2Pur. Don’t fall for the O2Pur scam: the company currently has an F rating from the Better Business Bureau.
According to customers, your credit card will be charged $70 per month in unauthorized fees if you request your “free” e-cigarette kit. You’re smarter than that.
