Ionic White – At Home Teeth Whitening LED Technology Kit?

on

Ionic White is an at-home tooth whitening system featured in a string of recent infomercials. Read our Ionic White review today to find out how – and if – this system actually works.

What is Ionic White?

Ionic White is a tooth whitening system that promises to give you a dazzling white smile with no stains and no pain. The system involves placing a gel on your teeth, then “activating” that gel using an LED light. The light pushes the gel deep into the teeth to make them whiter.

With just a few minutes of work a day, you can significantly whiten your teeth by several shades.

Ionic White is an As Seen On TV product featured in a recent infomercial. In that commercial, men and women with hideously brown teeth and shown scaring away friends, dates, and potential employers. Don’t be like these people!

Obviously, Ionic White isn’t the only LED-based teeth whitening system on the market today. Let’s take a closer look at how this system works – and what makes it unique.

How Does Ionic White Work?

Ionic White uses a “patent pending LED technology” to activate “the micro pore gel”. The LED light helps push the gel deeper into your teeth, activating the ingredients for maximum whitening.

Using the device is straightforward. You coat your teeth using the whitening pen (included), which works kind of like a marker. You rub it on the front of each of your teeth, leaving behind a thin coat.

Then, you place the Ionic White device inside your mouth and turn on the light. The plastic device has a mouthpiece designed to fit over the front of your teeth. The LED lights shine onto your teeth, activating the gel and leading to whitening.

The makers of Ionic White claim the procedure takes “just minutes” to give you dazzling white teeth.

Aside from that, there’s limited detail on the Ionic White sales page. However, we have to assume that Ionic White uses carbamide peroxide to achieve its active effects. Similar light-activated teeth whitening systems use light-activated carbamide peroxide gel. However, some sources online claim that Ionic White uses a gel containing real silver ions.

Scientific Evidence for LED Teeth Whitening: Does It Actually Work?

It may sound stupid, but teeth whitening lights are actually backed by some scientific evidence. There’s real evidence they can whiten your teeth. In this Boston University article, a reporter interviewed Gennaro Cataldo, a professor of general dentistry at BU’s Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine, who said,

“There are some products that use a light that we flash on our teeth to accelerate whitening. Even the whitening lights that we use in the dental office are no more effective than other ways of whitening teeth.”

Typically, however, these products use UV lighting – not LED lighting.

So does LED light actually make your teeth whiter?

Most reports suggest that the light itself doesn’t make your teeth whiter. However, the light – even LED lights – activates the ingredients inside gel, helping to accelerate the gel’s active effects.

Ultimately, Ionic White isn’t the only LED teeth whitening kit on the market today. Like other kits, Ionic White can be used to whiten your teeth by combining gel with LED lights.

That being said, the makers of Ionic White are not very transparent when it comes to their product. There’s little explanation of the science behind it. We don’t know what the “micro pore gel” is made of. And, most importantly, the company has not invested in any clinical trials or scientific testing. In other words, there’s no evidence showing this gel actually works as advertised.

Ionic White Pricing

Ionic White comes with a confusing pricing policy. Like other ASOTV products, there are expensive shipping costs and a tempting 2-for-1 offer. Here’s how pricing breaks down:

  • 1 Ionic White: $26.90 ($19.95 + $6.95 Shipping)
  • 2 Ionic Whites: $33.85 ($19.95 + $13.90 Shipping)

Your purchase comes with a whitening pen, an LED light, and a color chart. The color chart features different shades of white, so you can match up your teeth to the chart and compare the effects of the teeth whitening kit.

Like many ASOTV products, Ionic White has ridiculously long shipping times. Your product will ship “within 30 days”, according to the manufacturer. That’s a ridiculously long time to wait, especially considering you’re paying $7 shipping on a $20 product.

What Do Customers Have to Say About Ionic White?

Ionic White doesn’t seem to be very popular. Customers on Amazon have given the kit an average rating of 3.3 stars out of 5. There are more 1 star reviews than any other review. To Ionic White’s credit, however, only 10 reviews have been posted so far – so it’s early.

Customers generally praised Ionic White for its ability to whiten teeth at a cheap price using a discreet at-home process.

On the other hand, most customers say the product didn’t “do a thing” and did not work as advertised. Most customers reported that their teeth did not even get a single half shade lighter.

Ionic White isn’t a new product: it’s been seen in infomercials on and off for over a decade. The earliest Amazon reviews date back to 2006.

Should You Use Ionic White?

Ionic White is one of many teeth whitening systems on the market today. Most teeth whitening systems use a similar process, where you take an LED or UV light and shine it on gel to activate the ingredients inside, leading to a brighter smile.

Unfortunately, Ionic White gives us little information bout how it works. There are no clinical trials or scientific studies showing this system works as advertised. We don’t even know what the gel is made of. The company just calls it “micro pore gel”. It’s never a good idea to put something in your mouth when you don’t know the ingredients.

In any case, Ionic White may work as advertised. Unfortunately, there are cheaper and better options available from more reputable companies. Or, you could just use Crest White Strips, which tend to be the best-reviewed product in the teeth whitening market overall, although they’re slightly more expensive than Ionic White.
