Unisom Review

Unisom is a company that sells a variety of non-prescription sleep aids. Unisom claims to be “The #1 Pharmacist Recommended OTC Sleep-Aid Brand.” They also claim that millions of people use Unisom for a safe and restful night’s sleep.

About Unisom

Let’s look into Unisom’s products and discover how Unisom may or may not help you sleep better at night.

Unisom Products

As of right now, Unisom sells five different sleep aid products, depending on your age, needs, and preferred way to take medications. Here are all five Unisom products, and a brief explanation what each product is and how it works:

Unisom Liquid: Unisom Liquid is a great tasting liquid form of Unisom that is best used to treat occasional sleeplessness. It contains Diphenhydramine HCL, which is an anti-histamine that helps you feel drowsy and fall asleep faster. Unisom Liquid is only recommended for healthy children and adults over the age of 18.

Unisom SleepTabs®: According to Unisom, these SleepTabs® are clinically proven to help you fall asleep 33% faster on average. SleepTabs® contain an FDA-approved ingredient called “Doxylamine Succinate”, which blocks neurotransmitters and chemicals that keep you awake.

Unisom SleepGels: Unisom SleepGels contain a non-habit forming antihistamine called Diphenhydramine HCL. Like Unisom Liquid, these SleepGels are recommended if you suffer from occasional sleeplessness and need an extra something to fall asleep.

Unisom QuickMelts™: Unisom QuickMelts are fast dissolving tablets that work fast to put your body into “sleep mode.” QuickMelts contains Diphenhydramine HCL – the same ingredient in SleepGels and Liquid™. If you need fast relief, then these QuickMelts are probably the best option for you.

Unisom PM Pain: When you struggle to fall asleep because of pain, you need to rely on Unisom PM Pain. Combining the anti-histamine power of Diphenhydramine HCL and the pain relief power of acetaminophen, Unisom PM Pain is perfect when you suffer from night-time headaches, pains, and other aches.

Are Unisom Products Safe?

For the most part, there appear to be no common side effects associated with any of Unisom products. However, Unisom does warn that taking more than the recommended dose may cause liver damage.

In addition, Unisom products are not recommended for children under the age of 18. Even minor doses of Unisom products could cause overdose.

Finally, Unisom warns that you should not drink alcohol, drive a motor vehicle, or operate machinery after taking Unisom products. Since Unisom is meant to cause drowsiness, then you could put your life and other’s lives at risk by operating a motor vehicle or machinery.

If you have a special health condition or are just unsure whether or not Unisom products are safe for you, then we recommend you speak to your doctor. He or she will be able to give you a better understanding of whether or not you can take Unisom products to rid your sleep problems.

While it may seem like a weird combination, some doctors are recommending that women that are pregnant and experiencing morning sickness, take a Unisom and B6 supplement before bed. It is a highly searched for topic online. – But Remember – Talk with your doctor first before starting so that you know what dosages are safe for your application. I personally know a few mothers that tried this combination after talking with their Doctor and it almost removed their morning sickness completely.

Where to Buy Unisom Products

Unisom products are “OTC medications” which means you do not need a prescription medication to purchase them. You may be able to find Unisom products at your local “Mom & Pop” pharmacies if you’re lucky.

If your local pharmacy does not carry Unisom products, then you can find these products at Wal-Mart, CVS, Walgreens, Target, Amazon, and several other retailers.

Most Unisom products cost between $7-10, which is a steal considering the effectiveness of their products. You also may be able to find coupons online or in your weekly newspaper, which will drive the cost down even further.
