It’s Time to Get Informed About Skin Issues That Appear Under the Eyes

on

Nobody likes getting old. At least, nobody should like getting old. Or at the very least, nobody should like LOOKING old.

The idea of my skin getting all wrinkly and saggy does not sound very appealing to me, among all of the issues that arise with old age. It is no wonder that society has such a fixation with delaying and/or preventing certain effects of aging from occurring. It is part of the reason why dermatologists make so much money. Besides helping people with skin problems caused by diseases or allergies, they also work to help people fight the effects of aging either by advising them on certain lifestyles to follow or by developing anti-aging products to keep their patients’ skin youthful. How do I know? I am a dermatologist myself.

Now, in this particular article I am going to talk about one of the most sensitive parts of the face that tends to show very obvious signs of aging. The area of skin right under the human eye. This area is so fragile because the skin is paper thin, thus making things like wrinkles show up quite easily and quite quickly if you don’t take the preventative measures when you are younger.

Thankfully, these preventative measures are quite easy and will stave off the signs of aging for the most part until you get really old. Let’s delve into it, shall we?

First off, I am going to explain the difference between skin types. If you are a person with dry skin, you are more likely to deal with skin problems like flaking and wrinkles than someone with moist oily skin. Those people tend to deal with problems like acne.

If you are in the middle and have what is considered “normal” skin, you are less likely to deal with either issue, but that doesn’t mean you are in the clear. Your skin won’t stay perfect forever and if you don’t moisturize often, it will dry out and you will deal with the aforementioned issues.

Now, let’s actually take a look at these skin issues and some preventative measures you can take to stave them off.

Wrinkly Skin on Your Face and Under Your Eyes

Let’s start the biggest one – wrinkles. Wrinkly skin is an inevitable part of getting old. No matter how perfect your skin and how well you take care of it, you will get wrinkles one day or another. But, you would like that day to be as far from now as possible, right? While it is not possible to avoid wrinkles altogether, it is certainly possible to delay their appearance.

Moisturizing your skin (as I mentioned earlier) will go a long way in keeping the wrinkles away, but so will keeping yourself hydrated. Also, ensure that you get a healthy eight hours of sleep each night. Believe it or not, simple things like that go a long way in keeping your skin healthy and free from wrinkles. Wrinkles that show up on the skin under your eyes can be caused by aggressively applying removing makeup around that area, as well as the aforementioned causes for regular wrinkles.

Once again, prevention is as easy as taking good care of your skin and perhaps being more gentle when applying and removing makeup. Or drastically cutting down on how much makeup you use in that area.

Crow’s Feet

Another sign of aging around the eyes that people want to avoid getting are crow’s feet. Unfortunately, there is no preventative measure for this, but keeping good care of your skin will keep it away until at least your early thirties. If you don’t take care of your skin, though, you may start seeing crow’s feet in your early twenties.

Bags Under Your Eyes

If you have bags under your eyes, this is likely due to not getting enough sleep or being dehydrated. Are you starting to notice a trend here? Many skin problems that occur under and around the eyes tend to be because you’re not getting enough water or sleep. Not to mention, when you are tired, your eyes get watery and turn all red and you are more likely to aggressively rub them. And as I mentioned earlier, this can lead to an early onset of wrinkles under your eyes. Usually, bags under the eyes are an easy thing to avoid, but for some people it is genetic.

If chronic bags under the eyes runs in your family, know that it may not be your lifestyle that is causing you to get them. Although, getting enough sleep and water are still key for overall good health. There is nothing you can really do if it is genetic for you though besides putting on some concealer to hide it. Other preventative measures include putting cucumber slices on your eyes and rubbing certain creams and oils in the area of skin under your eyes.

Remember seeing women in movies and cartoons with white cream all over their face and cucumber slices on their eyes? It looks ridiculous, but actually works!

Rashes

Rashes can show up under your eyes due to allergic reactions. It can be due to a food allergy or even being allergic to a certain substance in makeup. Make sure you know what you are allergic to and ensure that you are not consuming it or applying it to your face.

Also, if you share makeup with your friends (I advise against doing this so you don’t accidentally get an allergic breakout), again make sure you know that you are not allergic to what you are applying to your face.

In Closing

As you can see, it is fairly easy to keep your skin and more specifically the skin under your eyes looking youthful and radiant as long as you live a healthy life. There are other measures you can take, such as not smoking and switching to healthier diets, but these pose a bigger challenge. I wanted to keep it easy for you guys but you may definitely want to consider taking those measures as well if you haven’t already. Good luck!
