SYMYX Review – Does It Work?

SYMYX is a lineup of sports drinks available exclusively from the Nutrition aisle at your local Target. Will SYMYX actually help improve your athletic performance? Let’s find out.

What is SYMYX?

SYMYX is a lineup of sports drinks available at Target. The products promise to help you lead a healthy, active lifestyle while promoting lean muscle growth and burning fat – you know, all of the good things other supplements promise.

You can also purchase the energy drinks from Target’s online store, where you’ll find four flavors of Simply Peach, Strawberry Kiwi, Watermelon, and Black Cherry.

There is currently only one SYMYX beverage variety called Elevate available. It’s categorized as an energy drink. A 4 pack containing one flavor is priced at $9.99.

Benefits of SYMYX

SYMYX promises to be a powerful sports drink to help fuel your workout, boost your energy, accelerate fat burning, and build lean muscle. By drinking it before, during, and after a workout, you can support a faster recovery, reduce body fat, preserve body tone, and replenish your electrolytes.

With that in mind, SYMYX comes with the following nutritional stats:

  • -7 grams of branch chain amino acids (BCAAs)
  • -0 grams of sugar
  • -0 carbs
  • -1.17 grams electrolyte blend
  • -100mg of caffeine

100mg of caffeine is about the same amount of caffeine in a cup of coffee. Caffeine is a well-known fat burner that most of us take every day without realizing it.

That 1.17 grams of electrolytes is also significant: an average bottle of Gatorade contains 160mg of sodium and 45mg of potassium per serving for a total of 205mg of electrolytes, while Powerade contains 150mg of sodium and 35mg of potassium per serving (185mg of electrolytes in total). SYMYX contains 1.17 grams of electrolytes, or 1170mg. that’s over 5 times more than either Gatorade or Powerade.

SYMYX Ingredients

The makers of SYMYX list the following supplement facts on their packaging and on the official website:

SYMYX-Ingredients

As you can see, the electrolyte blend in SYMYX only includes the sodium content (as sodium chloride), while there are two different types of potassium (dipotassium phosphate and the potassium chloride found in the Electrolyte Blend). So there are more electrolytes than just what you see in the 1170mg blend.

In short, there are plenty of electrolytes to help replenish your body during and after a hard workout.

There’s also a significant amount of BCAAs in each serving of SYMYX. The BCAAs L-Leucine, L-Isoleucine, and L-Valine are all required by our bodies to repair muscles and tissue after a strenuous workout. Typically, other nutritional supplements use a weak dosage of all BCAAs (under 1 gram). It’s refreshing to see that SYMYX contains a whopping 7 grams of BCAAs in each serving. That’s enough to replace your standard BCAA supplement – something that many people add to their intra-workout or post-workout shakes.

Other ingredients include L-Theanine, which is a popular complement to caffeine. Many people take a 2:1 “stack” of L-Theanine : Caffeine to promote focus and other cognitive benefits. So SYMYX may not just help you feel stronger – it could also help you think smarter.

The only ingredient that we’re concerned about is sucralose (i.e. Splenda). Some people believe sucralose is a dangerous sugar substitute, while others believe it’s totally harmless. What we do know about sucralose is that it passes through your body without being absorbed: so you taste it without actually absorbing its nutritional value. The problem with sucralose is that the FDA labels it as 98% pure, with the remaining 2% of ingredients possibly included chemically dangerous substances and formulas. There’s also some evidence that taking artificial sugar substitutes can disrupt how your body processes real sugar. SYMYX contains zero natural sugar: it just contains sucralose (Splenda).

SYMYX Pricing

SYMYX is available at Target locations across America in the Nutrition aisle. You can also buy it from Target.com. Here’s how pricing breaks down:

  • -SYMYX Elevate Strawberry Kiwi: $9.99 (4 Bottles)
  • -SYMYX Elevate Black Cherry: $9.99 (4 Bottles)
  • -SYMYX Elevate Simply Beach: $9.99 (4 Bottles)
  • -SYMYX Elevate Watermelon: $9.99 (4 Bottles)

Base on customer reviews posted on Target.com, the Strawberry Kiwi and Black Cherry flavors are really good while the Simply Peach is pretty average. However, since they’re all new products, there aren’t very many reviews available (Target is currently giving away bottles of SYMYX for free in exchange for honest reviews).

Should You Use SYMYX As Your Sports Drink?

SYMYX is like a superpowered form of Gatorade or Powerade. It contains significantly more electrolytes than an average serving of Gatorade or Powerade (like five times more). But it also contains valuable BCAAs – valuable amino acids that help repair your muscles after a workout.

There’s also a healthy dose of caffeine (100mg) mixed with the popular calming nootropic ingredient L-Theanine (200mg). Everything appears to be available in the recommended dosages. It’s like a bottle of Gatorade and a serving of BCAA formula mixed with a Red Bull without the sugar.

If you’re looking for a pre-workout, intra-workout, or post-workout sports drink, then SYMYX could be exactly what you’re looking for.

  1. This stuff tastes like koolaid meets battery acid. Why is there Sucralose in this? There is zero health benefit to it and many reasons to avoid it. Way over sweetened, basically.

  2. Well… aside from all the bad reviews, I got it at a grocery outlet where I normally do shopping for everyday spices and such, thought I would give it a try. I bought the peach and absolutely love it. I can drink it in the morning and get through my classes and a workout fairly easily. I think it tastes great and will definitely buy more.

  3. This stuff did give me a little bit of an energy boost but it tastes like offbrand crystal light, way over sweetened with artificial sweetener. The taste was horrible! I originally bought it at a discount outlet because it said it was non-gmo and it was really cheap. Unfortunately, it’s a lie because it has artificial sweetener and artificial colors, which obviously are not non-gmo. I definitely will not be buying these again.

  4. Bought a 4 pack of Black Cherry . omg this is the worst, tastes like medicated syrup, actually not as good . stay away.

  5. sometimes the best stuff is not so tasty…the review has me convinced….just cleaned them out at the 99cent store 4/99cents,,,,yipee….lucky me….look at the ratio to gator aide…amazing…

  6. this is the most god-awful tasting beverage i have tasted in my entire life. I can see why they were reduced to 50 cents a bottle.

  7. I get the peach and cherry found out best chilled in refrigerator. The taste doesn’t bother me much but notice it helps during my workouts.

  8. I bought the Strawberry- Kiwi. It tastes SO BAD!!! only palatable with lots of ice and 5 times the amount of water. I will not but it again.
