Sensodyne Pronamel Review – Worth It?

Sensodyne Pronamel is a toothpaste company that has developed products that are safe for children and adults, especially individuals with sensitive teeth. This is our review.

What is Sensodyne Pronamel?

Sensodyne Pronamel is a line of toothpaste products that are cater to, but are not meant directly for, consumers with sensitive teeth and acidic erosion. Most people do not understand the damage that they put their teeth through on a regular basis. Additionally, if you are busy, you probably don’t brush your teeth as much as you should, adding to the potential erosion that your teeth could be going through right now. That’s where Sensodyne Pronamel is able to help.

Many dentists will recommend that you use one of the Sensodyne Pronamel products if you are experiencing erosion due to acidic foods. A simple exam with your dentist would be able to tell you if you are at risk for erosion in the first place. However, if you consider how much you consume that is high in acidic ingredients, you can probably make an educated guess how bad the damage could be.

Causes of Acid Erosion

The biggest problem with acidic erosion is that so many foods contain acid that we don’t even consider. Most of the time, consumers and advertisers focus on the importance of eliminating plaque from your gums. This aspect of dental health is important, but it often causes consumers to forget that acid is often the cause of weakened teeth.

You may not even realize the food you are eating is bad for your teeth, since a good amount of acidic foods are healthy and necessary to your diet. Some common healthy choices that contain high levels of acid include soda, fruit juice, the lemon you add to your water, and salad dressing. Some of the not-so-health acidic food products include coffee, wine, and soda. Basically, throughout your day, you risk your enamel health multiple times. Luckily, Sensodyne Pronamel focuses on multiple ways to prevent acid erosion, while brushing your teeth regularly.

Preventing Acid Erosion

While it may seem like you’re fighting a losing battle, there are many steps you can take towards preventing acid erosion. The most obvious decision is to brush your teeth with a Sensodyne Pronamel toothpaste. Additionally, the company recommends:

  • Scheduling a visit to your dentist, especially if you are not following the recommended checkup schedule
  • Balance out the acidic foods you eat with products that promote saliva production or that contain dairy.
  • Avoid keeping acidic beverages in your mouth for an extended amount of time
  • Drink your acidic beverages through a straw.
  • Switch to a solid-bristle toothbrush.

The most important choice to Sensodyne Pronamel is obviously to use a toothpaste by their company. Their toothpaste selection contains your necessary dose of fluoride, which helps to protect your teeth from erosion.

How Sensodyne Pronamel Works

While you may think that the type of toothpaste you use doesn’t matter, you couldn’t be more wrong. Sensodyne Pronamel has a unique formula. Most toothpastes won’t or can’t protect your enamel from the damage that acids cause. You need daily protection from acid to prevent irreparable damage to your teeth. Without protection, the enamel surface of your teeth weakens and causes damage. In some cases, the damage becomes intense enough to cause pain to the individual.

While no toothpaste is able to replace your enamel, Sensodyne Pronamel is able to penetrate the surface of the enamel, which helps to strengthen and re-harden the damaged tooth. This hardness is what your teeth will rely on to remain healthy and strong.

The reason that Sensodyne Pronamel is able to accomplish what other toothpastes can’t, is due to the optimized-fluoride formulations. In fact, Sensodyne Pronamel blend of ingredients is specifically designed to help with erosion, rather than being an afterthought as with other toothpaste.

Using Sensodyne Pronamel

The directions for using the Sensodyne Pronamel toothpaste varies between the age groups. Additionally, keep in mind that the dental needs of a child are not the same as an adult, and you should consult with your child’s dentist if you want to change their routine.

If you are over the age of twelve, follow these instructions:

  1. Use about a one-inch long strand of toothpaste on your toothbrush.
  2. Brush your teeth for one minute.
  3. Do not swallow. Spit out toothpaste after brushing.

Most dentists will recommend brushing your teeth twice a day and flossing your teeth once a day. You can brush your teeth up to three times a day. If you exceed three times, you start to put your teeth at risk for increasing the absorption of acid during your meals.

Children should follow these instructions:

  1. Put toothpaste on the toothbrush.
  2. Brush for one minute.
  3. Do not swallow. Spit out toothpaste after brushing.

With children, you may have to put only a pea-sized amount of toothpaste on the brush. Children are used to swallowing whatever is in their mouth, so it is best to use a smaller amount to reduce the risks if some of it is swallowed.

If your child is under two years old, do not brush with Sensodyne Pronamel. You should be using a non-fluoride toothpaste until your child turns two.

Pronamel Products

Sensodyne Pronamel makes five different kinds of toothpaste, and also offers a toothbrush with soft bristles to add to your regimen. However, you can use any soft-bristle toothbrush with these toothpastes and get the same result. If you want to save a little money, check out the Coupons section of the Sensodyne Pronamel website. Here is a little information about each of the five toothpastes offered through Sensodyne Pronamel.

Fresh Wave

Fresh Wave is designed specifically for people with sensitive teeth. It has all the benefits that you can expect with Sensodyne Pronamel toothpastes, and has a fresh scent for pleasant breath. These benefits include:

  • Protection from acid erosion
  • Added strength to softened enamel
  • Protection from cavities

Gentle Whitening

Gentle Whitening is fairly similar to the Fresh Wave toothpaste. While it is not specifically made for sensitive teeth, it does provide a mild whitener to give you a brighter smile.

Mint Essence

Mint Essence has all the expected benefits of Sensodyne Pronamel toothpaste. However, this formula contains a higher level of fluoride, meaning that consumers have more cavity protection than other toothpastes. By preventing cavities, you protect your teeth from worse damage.

Multi-Action

Just like its name, the Multi-Action toothpaste has multiple ways that it can help your teeth. Along with the benefits that come with each Sensodyne Pronamel toothpaste, it provides cavity protection and helps promote healthy teeth and gums.

Kids

The Kids toothpaste is designed for children from ages 6 to 12. At this age, children begin to lose their baby teeth, as their adult teeth come in. This is a crucial time for teaching your child how to properly care for their permanent teeth. What better way than to use a Sensodyne Pronamel toothpaste to keep their pearly whites from becoming a shiny yellow instead.

Purchasing Options for Sensodyne Pronamel

You don’t have to go to any specialty stores to get Sensodyne Pronamel toothpastes. You can look in the dental care/toothpaste section of whichever supermarket you want to go to. The toothpastes all retail for under $10, making it easy to attain a white and bright smile.

  1. Comment: I am extremely happy for details given on proper caring of the teeth through sensodyne pronamel toothpaste and other categories of the sensodyne toothpastes. I also have two questions to ask: Some of my teeth had been removed in about three to four years now in both upper and lower jaws and I believe I have mouth odour whenever I talk.
    1. What will be the implication if I use any of the sensodyne toothpastes for the fact that some of my teeth were removed ?
    2. Is there any recommended toothpaste for clearing mouth odour? If yes, please I need to know.
