Red Headed Honey products are created from honeybee byproducts that are directly harvest from the hives in Southern Michigan. The company’s honeybees enjoy countless acres of land, surrounded by woods, wildflowers, fruit trees, along with a spring river.
While creating all natural skincare products that people appreciate remains the company’s focus, their main mission is to bring consciousness to the falling population of the honeybees.
The company have over 12 years’ experience in working with honeybees and are still growing. Red Headed Honey have an educational foundation in cosmetics development. Currently, they run within 60 hives in Hillsdale County in Southern Michigan.
They believe in natural methods to develop hives and beekeeping operation from the heartland of agriculture and pesticide over-use.
History Of The Red Headed Honey
The business was founded in Willow Creek, California. The founder and president of Red Headed Honey, Niki Backes began this business as her desire of working with Honeybees grew. In addition, the honey she was making and her own skincare line was starting to get high demands.
After Niki graduated with a degree in Psychology from Humboldt State University in 2006, she focused on studying beekeeping. She was led by her desire to learn more about honeybees and to develop her business further.
It was during that time while working that Niki met Jeff Dayton, the Red Headed Honey’s CEO. Jeff understood Nikki’s dream and passion of working with honeybees are significant. He chose to join the team while he was vacationing in Central America.
In 2013, Niki was hired to work in Germany for Ansgar Westerhoff with more than 3,000 beehives. Her knowledge was widened by her time spent in Germany. Niki was determined to expand her business, upon returning from Germany.
In that pursuit, she traveled to Costa Rica in early 2014 to operate with Africanized bees, and that's when she and Jeff Dayton, the Red Headed Honey’s CEO, met. Jeff understood Nikki’s dream and passion of working with honeybees. He chose to join the team and they worked together on growing the company sustainably.
Soon after, Niki moved back to Michigan and together with Jeff, they established a new home for Red Headed Honey.
With their combined knowledge of honeybees, herbs and essential oils, they proceed to formulate existing and new products for red headed honey's skincare line, which uses only 100% all organic ingredients and harvested byproducts.

Currently, Red Headed Honey products are available online as well as in several retail locations. They participate in local farmers markets, events and trade-shows.
They offer all things honeybees including but not limited to swarm removal, hive extraction in homes, educational presentations and talks as well as Custom Skincare Formulations.

In addition to honey, they believe in sustainably using all byproducts of the beehive. Beeswax, Propolis, Royal Jelly and Pollen.
They have a wide range of all natural honey bee byproducts including Propolis Healing Salve, Honey Lotion, Royal Jelly Rose Eye Cream and so much more. They are in constant development of great, new products to offer their customers and believe in supporting the local beekeeper and local businesses whenever possible!
Furthermore, farm tours are available with prior notice and they are also available to give presentations with two frame observation hive to groups, schools or any event.
They are involved with the ABF (American Beekeeping Federation) and the MBA (Michigan Beekeeping Association). Their practices are based on the health and vitality of the honeybee as well as teaching awareness of the importance of this precious creature and how they can create a better future for all.
