My Fitness Pal Review

My Fitness Pal is a calorie counter app that has been used by millions of people to lose weight. Find out how My Fitness Pal works today in our review.

What is My Fitness Pal?

My Fitness Pal is a popular diet and fitness app available for both iOS and Android. The app claims to have been used by millions of people around the world to lose weight.

The app primarily works by tracking your daily caloric intake. The app has a library of over 5 million global food and beverage items. Every time you eat or drink something, you enter it into the app.

One of the coolest features of My Fitness Pal is that you can use it to scan the barcodes of the food you eat. So if you just drank a can of Coke, you can scan the barcode and have that information automatically entered into the app.

The app keeps track of your calories, fat, protein, carbs, sugar, fiber, cholesterol, and other major nutrient values.

At the same time, you can use the app to track your fitness routine. The app has 350 cardio exercises and strength training programs built-in. You input the length of time you spent doing the exercise, or the number of sets/reps you did.

My Fitness Pal is also famous for its compatibility. It’s compatible with a wide range of popular apps and devices (50 in total), including FitBit, Jawbone UP, Garmin, MapMyFitness, RunKeeper, Strava, Runtastic, Misfit, Healthkit, and others. So if you’re already using a smartwatch or fitness tracker to track your daily routine, then My Fitness Pal could integrate well with your lifestyle.

My Fitness Pal is free to use. In February 2015, however, the app was purchased by Under Armor for $475 million. The company introduced a premium subscription level, although the core app is still totally free to use.

How Does My Fitness Pal Work?

Step 1) Download My Fitness Pal for iOS, Android, or Windows Phone

Step 2) The app will create a personalized diet and fitness plan based on your height, weight, body type, and fitness goals

Step 3) Start using the app to track your meals and exercises

Step 4) Start losing weight! The creators of the app claim that “88% of our users who track for 7 days or more lose weight”

Along the way, the app will give you personalized goals based on your individual diet profile. You can also enter your own fitness goals based on information you’ve received from your doctor, nutritionist, etc.

In addition to the calorie counter and exercise tracker, My Fitness Pal has a community where some users like to participate. This community is basically a forum where you can exchange tips and weight loss stories. You can introduce yourself, browse through recipes, read through success stories, or get technical support for the app.

You can enter information into the app using the app or you can use the browser-based web application on any tablet, desktop, or laptop computer.

Does My Fitness Pal Actually Work?

My Fitness Pal isn’t a miracle weight loss cure: it’s not a magical way to lose weight. If, however, you want to lose weight, then My Fitness Pal can be a very helpful tool.

The app keeps track of your caloric input and output. For some people, that can give them the motivation they need to start losing weight. For others, it can be too much of a distraction.

The main page of MyFitnessPal.com actually has a section where it shares success stories from real users. One of the most well-known users is Tamara, a 31 year old mother of two who weighed 278 pounds and used the My Fitness Pal app to drop 141 pounds. She was featured on The Today Show for her inspirational story.

About My Fitness Pal

My Fitness Pal was originally created by two developers named Albert Lee and Mike Lee. The company, MyFitnessPal, Inc. was founded back in 2005.

In February 2015, the app was sold to Under Armor for $475 million. At the time, the app had a total of 80 million users.

Under Armor began monetizing the app by introducing a premium subscription service. That premium service let users make custom reports, learn more about the nutrient profile of their food, and customize measurements used to plan meals.

The core of the app, however, is still totally free to use.
