Essiac Tea – Real Herbal Anti-Cancer Health Benefits?

on

Cancer is a worldwide problem that affects millions of people. It’s a burdensome disease that’s not only killing the health of the victim – it also cripples the victim financially.

The National Cancer Institute says that in the United States alone, expenditure on cancer care was $125 billion in 2010 and this is expected to reach $159 billion by 2020.

One of the most popular treatment options available for cancer is chemotherapy. Due to the high costs and low survival rate associated with chemotherapy, people are now searching for safer and cheaper alternatives.

Compared to Western medicine, traditional Chinese medicine makes use of herbal medicines and some of these even offer treatment to common types of cancers such as breast, stomach, esophageal, and colorectal cancers.

Even though Western medicine is not yet that convinced of the curative properties of herbal medicines, some cancer victims are now gambling and trying these out. One of the names that they may have come across is the Essiac brand and this article will be reviewing this.

What Is Essiac Tea?

Essiac is the name of a tea that was claimed to have cured an English miner’s wife of breast cancer. The formula was given to a Canadian nurse named Renee M. Caisse. She later named it Essiac Tea, which was the reverse spelling of her surname, and gave this remedy for free to cancer patients since 1922.

Doctors soon began to take notice where eight of those she worked with wrote to the Department of National Health and Welfare and told how the Essiac tea showed beneficial results for the patients. The letter was not received well and Caisse was put under investigation.

Despite opposition, Caisse was able to continue with her business because she acted under the supervision of doctors. One of the lucky persons who was supposedly cured of cancer from using the tea was her mother. Caisse pursued legalization of the product with the support of the many patients who claimed that they got better by using Essiac tea.

The quest to legalize Essiac as a cure for cancer never materialized, a decision that was met with hundreds of letters of outrage sent to the Minister of Health. Although this never made it as a legal cancer cure, the Essiac brand continues to exist and is still being sold in the market and recommended by holistic health practitioners.

Essiac Products

There are several product variants under the Essiac brand and these are:

  • ESSIAC Powder
  • ESSIAC Capsules
  • ESSIAC Extract
  • ESSIAC for Pets

The ingredients for these are not mentioned in their website but some sources say that Caisse eventually revealed these. The ingredients to the Essiac tea were claimed to have been these four herbs – burdock root, sheep sorrel, slippery helm, and Turkey rhubarb.

Where To Buy Essiac Tea

People can purchase Essiac online though different herbal e-commerce websites. This is also available through online retail stores like Amazon.

Essiac Tea Review Summary

Essiac is not the first potential cancer treatment that has not been officially legalized. One example of this is the Rife Machine. GcMAF, a possible cancer and autism treatment from Japan, is unapproved in the United States.

Studies on the likes of cancer treatment often involves a lot of money and only big pharmaceutical companies can afford them. Herbal remedies are not often funded. People will just have to try Essiac for themselves whether this really can cure cancer.
