Natural Herbs In Essiac

All of these herbs have a reputation for have beneficial effects on the immune system. Here is a brief summary by Essiac on the role that each herb plays in the body and immune system.

Burdock Root (also known as arctum lappa):

Burdock root is most commonly used to help maintain a healthy gastrointestinal tract and stimulate a healthy immune response. Herbalists believe that it is capable of eliminating free radicals and purifying the blood. Burdock root is rich in vitamin A and selenium, which helps to reduce the chromium content of free radicals, which also helps maintain normal blood sugar levels.

Slippery Elm Inner Bark (also known as ulmus fulva):

The inner bark of the slippery elm is a natural nutrient that nourishes and soothes organs, tissues and mucus membranes and supports lung health. It is believed to help with inflammation in those areas, and is known for positive digestive effects as well.

Sheep Sorrel (also known as rumex acetosella):

Sheep sorrel has more of a “traditional folk herbalism” usage. This ingredient is often used to force the skin to sweat, which detoxifies the body. It is frequently used to help maintain healthy kidney and urinary functions. Additionally, herbalists believe that it helps to nourish the glandular system.

Indian Rhubarb Root (also known as rheum australe):

Indian rhubarb root is primarily used in small amounts, since the herb itself is so potent. It helps the liver purge the toxins and chemicals that build up in the digestive system over time.
