EmTracker – Emotional Wearable Stress Tracker For Seniors?

on

EMtracker is a stress tracker for seniors. Find out how this unique wearable device works today in our review.

What is EMtracker?

EMtracker is a wearable device that wants to allow older adults to live active lives – regardless of their age or health.

The device consists of a wristband with sensors and software. The wristband features sensors that monitor biometric data from the wearer, then send that data to a connected phone. The software consists of server-side and native applications for Android and iOS. There’s also a web interface for retirement houses, which means retirement houses could monitor the health of patients at a single glance.

EMtracker was developed by a Ukrainian team. The company successfully funded its project two years ago on Kickstarter. Today, they’re preparing for a general launch. The website is currently accepting preorders. One EMtracker is priced at around $170 USD.

EMtracker Features

What does EMtracker track? Here are some of the core features in the wearable device:

  • Sensitive Alert Button: Allows the wearer to send an alert in the event of a fall or other emergency
  • Fall Notification: EMtracker can automatically detect a rapid downward change in movement, which could indicate that the wearer has fallen down.
  • Long Battery: EMtracker claims to last for up to 10 days.
  • Blood Oxygenation: EMtracker calculates the percentage of oxygen in your blood.
  • Respiration Rate: EMtracker tracks your breathing rate.
  • Location Detection: EMtracker tracks your location, and can send that information to loved ones.
  • Emergency Caregiver Alerts: EMtracker can send emergency alerts to caregivers automatically.
  • Long-Term Tracking: Track biometric over a long period of time to measure any changes.
  • Pill Reminder and Call Reminder: EMtracker can send pill reminders through the phone, letting the senior know when they need to take their medication.
  • Multi-User Profiles: Setup multiple users across a single account, letting you monitor two people from one interface.

From the EMtracker app, you can look at basic details like the current heartrate, current stress level, device battery level, and the stress level throughout the day. There’s also a “call” button in the top right corner of the screen that you can press to call the wearer.

How Does EMtracker Work?

How does EMtracker track wearers? What kind of technology is inside? Here’s a look at how EMtracker works:

  • Wireless Charging: Qi standard charging keeps the device charged. Each charge lasts about 10 days.
  • Accelerometer: This accelerometer uses a “unique algorithm” to detect falls.
  • NFC: NFC provides secure, simple pairing and better protection of privacy data.
  • Rheography Sensor: Provides precise HRV measurement from your wrist through a combination of rheography and photoplethysmography.
  • Bioimpedance Spectroscopy Sensor: Used to measure stress levels.
  • PPG: Light-based technology used to sense the rate of blood flow.

Because of the technology used in EMtracker, the device has an advantage over other wearables: it works on any skin color – including skin with a tattoo.

EMtracker Pricing

EMtracker is priced at $169 USD.

That price includes shipping. The company is currently accepting preorders through its official website at Emotion.family. That appears to be the only place to order EMtracker at the moment.

Force’s Motion Technology

Right now, the makers of Force are focused on creating EMtracker, a device that detects emotional stress and other issues in seniors. Force is also developing motion technology, however, that can be used to help communicate with deaf people.

The company describes their device as “a forearm cuff” that can make it easier to understand deaf people. That cuff “reads electrical activity in the forearms to translate sign-language gestures into spoken language for everyone”.

Why is that important? It gives deaf people a voice. Essentially, the device translates sign language into spoken words. So even if you don’t speak sign language, you can communicate with deaf people.

The technology is listed as “coming soon” on the official website.

Who Makes EMtracker?

EMtracker is made by a company called Force, LLC.

Force describes itself as a “team of engineers, programmers, mathematicians and biomedical scientists”. At the moment, they’re developing revolutionary bioengineering technologies.

The company’s big breakthrough came when they were able to capture rheography from the wrist for stress level detection. Their second breakthrough came from using myography for gesture recognition for the deaf.

The company is led by CEO Lisa Voronkova, CTO Illia Kukharenko, CFO Alexander Tulko, and COO Igor Klymonchuk.

Force first made headlines at IDCEE 2014, when they first announced their project developments. Later, Force won a prize at the Seed Forum in Oslo, Norway when they presented their gesture recognition technology.

In 2015, the company successfully funded its project on Kickstarter. Back then, the wearable device was known as “Force”. You can view the original Kickstarter page here.
