The AQR Air Water Collector is a device that extracts moisture from the air, converting it into fresh water. The device was developed by a few university students as a project to help with the needs of the evolving world.
What Is The AQR Air Water Collector?
If you live in the United States, or another first world country, the drinkable water in your home probably isn’t given a second thought. You turn on your faucet, and it’s available within less than a second. In fact, society as a whole wastes millions of gallons of water every single day, even while standing in the shower as the water pours down to relax. However, that’s not the culture in every part of the world.
There are some countries that have millions of people without a source for clean water, which is a major issue for families that need it to survive.
Without clean water, these cultures don’t just need to worry about to ability to take a bath or to wash their hands. The lack of availability also means that children are dehydrated, leaving them to die without any support or way out. However, the AQR Air Water Collector helps to fulfill that need that all those people face every day.
The AQR Air Water Collector doesn’t even need to be in direct contact with water to absorb it and distribute it. With the ability to use the device over and over again, they won’t need to be replaced frequently, making them a permanent future for some communities. The best part? It doesn’t even require electricity. The design of the collector makes it the perfect addition for communities that suffer from dehydration, due to the versatility and the ability for even a child to use.
There are many different charitable foundations that consistently send water to third-world countries, but the only issue is the lack of ability to create their own sources. Water can be spent quickly, and the ability to maintain your own supply is a luxury that is not afforded for some families. With the AQR Air Water Collector, replenishment is not a problem.
Rewards And Accolades
Right now, the AQR Air Water Collector is the recipient of the iF Public Value Student Award 2016. The award is given to students that develop solutions for current problems that are faced in society. Essentially, when a university-enrolled student comes up with an idea that improves the living situations of an entire culture, that innovative technique and style is rewarded with this award.
With over 75% of people in America alone suffering from dehydration, you can only imagine how many people without constant access are constantly suffering. By taking on this major issue, the creators – Chung Li, Yeh Chun-ming, Cheng Kai-Chun, and Lo Hung-Wei – easily deserve this accolade.
How Does The AQR Air Water Collector Work?
As stated above, the AQR Air Water Collector sources it’s water from the air around it, but how? The top of the device features an air filter, which attracts the moisture from the current environment, collecting it in the top basin. As the water weighs heavily on the filter, it slowly is purified, storing the remaining liquid in the lower basin. Using the sun and the pressure from the nature atmosphere, any other water is pushed through the filter, working best in high pressure environments.
To prepare the collector, you can move down the outward casing, extending it to create a tripod that makes it easy to access the fresh water in the basin.
The device is relatively small, measuring only 90cm (35 inches) in height. With this lightweight device, you can station it where the most people will be able to benefit from the fresh water. It produces 15 liters (almost four gallons) of fresh water a day, which is enough for a small group of people to share, if necessary.
Using The AQR Air Water Collector
Once the AQR Air Water Collector is delivered to the area that it will help extract water from, it’s up to the family or small community to take advantage of the benefits. The time when the AQR Air Water Collector can absorb the most water is at night, so you will need to slightly open the hatch, which is found on the top of the collector.
When you wake up, close the hatch. The apparatus gives the sun the time to work its magic, as stated above, causing the collector to filter through the water and emit it in the reservoir below.

AQR Air Water Collector Review Summary
The fact is, this innovation is not the only company to be developing solar-powered filtration systems for their water supply. There are actually several other brands that are working on similar models to help distribute water filtration systems around the world.
While these other methods have price tags of $1,000 and up, there’s no present website that affords you the opportunity to purchase the AQR Air Water Collector quite yet. However, you can still look to other charitable donations to help others around the world.
