What is Ancient Harvest?
Ancient Harvest is a Boulder, Colorado-based company known for its healthy foods. According to a recent press release, Ancient Harvest was the company that first introduced quinoa to the United States more than 30 years ago.
Today, the company sells a wide range of organic, non-GMO, plant-based foods – including pasta, quinoa, mac and cheese, and hot breakfast cereals. The company’s products are typically gluten-free, and contain ingredients like quinoa, amaranth, millet, beans, and lentils.
If you’ve ever cooked quinoa, then you know there’s an annoying problem: quinoa is healthy and it’s a complete protein source. However, it also takes a long time to cook. And, unlike rice, there’s no “heat and eat” method available: you can’t just buy a microwaveable bag of quinoa and prepare it in 90 seconds.
That’s why Ancient Harvest decided to create their own microwaveable version of quinoa. The company announced the news in a press release sent out on March 1, 2017. The instant quinoa will retail at a price of $3.49 when it’s released later this month.
What is Ancient Harvest Heat-and-Eat Organic Quinoa?
Ancient Harvest’s new Heat-and-Eat Organic Quinoa comes in three pre-cooked varieties, including:
- Organic Quinoa with Sea Salt
- Organic Quinoa with Chickpeas & Garlic
- Organic Quinoa with Lentils & Garlic
Each variety contains simple, all organic ingredients, explains a recent press release from Ancient Harvest.
Like normal quinoa, there’s 11 grams of protein in each serving. There’s also no GMOs, rice or fillers, preservatives, additives, artificial flavors, or artificial colors. As Ancient Harvest explains, it’s “the new clean-food superstar of convenience foods”.
The organic quinoa lineup also includes organic coconut oil, an ingredient that’s been linked to a variety of health benefits – including antibacterial effects and anti-inflammatory properties.
Overall, the Ancient Harvest Heat-and-Eat Organic Quinoa promises to deliver roughly twice the amount of protein as rice-based ready-to-eat products. There’s also the advantage that quinoa is a “whole” protein source that contains all 9 essential amino acids. It also contains a decent serving of fiber – 9 grams per serving.
How to Make the Ancient Harvest Heat-and-Eat Organic Quinoa
Ancient Harvest Heat-and-Eat Organic Quinoa is easy to make. It comes in an 8 oz BPA-free pouch. Each pouch makes two servings of quinoa. You place the quinoa in the microwave or warm it up on the skillet. In either case, it’s ready to eat in 90 seconds.
The company claims it’s “ideal for an instant snack, mini-meal or side dish at home, work or on the road.”

The quinoa is priced at $3.49.
It’s not yet available to order online or in-store. However, Ancient Harvest is showing off the quinoa to the world at a convention in Anaheim in March (the Natural Products Expo West convention).
