Alterna Bamboo Shampoo – Hair That's Sinfully Intoxicating?

Alterna Bamboo Shampoo Review – Quality?

Alterna Bamboo Volume Abundant Volume Shampoo is a recently-released hair care product that promises to use natural ingredients to give you a fresh, full-bodied look. Here’s our review.

What is Alterna Bamboo Shampoo?

Alterna Bamboo Shampoo is a shampoo that promises to give you fuller-looking hair using natural ingredients.

The shampoo contains a combination of pure organic bamboo extract and phyto-nutrient rich organic maca root. Together, these ingredients cleanse and energize your hair “with weightless moisture”, according to the makers of the shampoo.

The shampoo is priced at $22 for an 8.5 fl oz bottle. It’s sold by haircare product maker Alterna Haircare.

How Does Alterna Bamboo Shampoo Work?

Alterna Bamboo Shampoo works using two primary natural ingredients, including organic bamboo extract and organic maca root.

Organic bamboo extract boosts the strength of your hair while also enhancing its flexibility and sustainability to give you stronger, healthier hair.

Meanwhile, organic maca root energizes hair from the inside out to improve volume in three dimensions, including fullness, thickness, and lift.

There’s also a third ingredient called “Color Hold”. Alterna describes this as a proprietary formula that “infuses hair with plant-derived melanin for extreme color protection and prevents color wash out.” It also protects your hair from UVA, UVB, and visible light, including artificial light sources – so it doesn’t dry out or become damaged when you’re exposed to environmental stressors.

These are the three core ingredients listed, although the actual ingredients list for Alterna Bamboo Shampoo contains dozens of ingredients. You can see the full section of ingredients here:

The first few listed ingredients are: Water (Aqua), Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Sodium Methyl 2-Sulfolaurate, Disodium 2-Sulfolaurate, Lauramide MEA, Sodium Methyl Cocoyl Taurate, PEG-150 Distearate, Silicone Quaternium-8, Cetrimonium Chloride, and Rice Amino Acids.

It’s not until you get down towards the bottom of the ingredients list that you start to see bamboo extract, sunflower seed extract, and other natural ingredients – so if you’re expecting to use a formula made up of only natural ingredients, then you won’t get it with Alterna Bamboo Shampoo (or any other shampoo on the market, really).

It’s important to note that the formula is free of parabens, sulfates, phthalates, synthetic colors, sodium chloride, gluten, DEA/TEA, and triclosan.

How to Use Alterna Bamboo Shampoo

Alterna recommends using the shampoo by massaging it throughout your wet hair and scalp before rinsing thoroughly.

They also recommend using their other bamboo-based haircare product, Bamboo Abundant Volume Conditioner, for optimal results.

Alterna Bamboo Shampoo Pricing

Bamboo Shampoo is available online through the official Alterna website as well as through third-party retailers like Wherever you buy, it’s priced at pretty much the same rate.

  • Amazon: $21.99
  • $22

Each bottle is 8.5 fl oz.

You can also purchase a 67.6 fl oz bottle for $49.

What Do Customers Have to Say About Alterna Bamboo Shampoo?

Customers on Amazon are generally positive about Alterna Bamboo Shampoo. The shampoo currently has an average rating of 4.5 stars out of 5 across 84 customer reviews.

The vast majority of reviewers (79% of all reviewers) rate it as 4 or 5 stars out of 5.

Positive reviews mention that the shampoo is “thick so it is useful for fighting frizz”. However, even the positive reviews mention that the shampoo is so thick that it could cause problems on fine hair.

As one reviewer explained,

“This shampoo works best for people who like a straighter style and have thicker hair.”

Other reviewers praise the smell of the shampoo, the easy-to-open twist top lid, and the ability to give you silky and soft hair.

Across almost all reviews, reviewers mention how different the shampoo feels from ordinary shampoo. Most agree that it doesn’t feel or lather like normal shampoo, with one reviewer even claiming that it felt like “dish detergent” and that had her initially worried. However, after she washed and brushed her hair, she was very impressed with the results.

The few negative reviews for Alterna Bamboo Shampoo are typically from people with unique hair needs or thin hair. One reviewer said that she has long wavy hair with long layers and that her hair “gets tangled while shampooing with this product.”

Ultimately, some people love this shampoo, while others find it didn’t have the same effects on their hair. Typically, those with thicker hair will have better results, while those with thinner hair may not be as impressed.
