International Germany-based supermarket chain Aldi has been gradually transforming itself into a health food store.
Starting in 2017, Aldi will go one big step closer towards that transformation. As of January 1, all Aldi food products sold in the United States will be organic.
Aldi announced the news this past week, stating that they’re removing 8 pesticides from all products on US store shelves.
As of today, Aldi has approximately 1500 stores in the United States, with plans to open 500 more stores by 2018.
About Aldi Organic
Aldi is clearly trying to target health-conscious consumers. As part of that effort, they have increasingly expanded their organic offerings over the years.
They removed products with artificial colors and dyes, for example, while also releasing their SimplyNature lineup of branded products.
These efforts are just the beginning. Starting January 1, Aldi is removing the following 8 pesticides from all its products on US store shelves:
- Thiamethoxam
- Chlorpyrifos
- Clothianidin
- Cypermethrin
- Deltamethrin
- Fipronil
- Imidacloprid
- Sulfoxaflor
Measures To Implement In Aldi Supermarkets
Aldi also announced plans to implement the following measures at Aldi supermarkets across the country:
- Expand their organic food brands, continuing to remove artificial ingredients from products while adding more gluten-free items
- Removed certified synthetic colors, partially hydrogenated oils, and MSG from private-label products (Aldi’s private-label products make up 90% of sales)
- Expanded sales of fresh and organic meat and produce, including Aldi’s “Never Any!” brand, which is a lineup of meat products certified to contain no added antibiotics, hormones, animal byproducts, or other additives
- Aldi will expand the SimplyNature lineup, which is a lineup of food products guaranteed to be free of more than 125 artificial ingredients. They’re also expanded their gluten-free food product lineup called liveGfree.
- Right now, all Aldi milk is free of artificial growth hormones. However, the company announced that all its yogurt, sour cream, cottage cheese, and other dairy products will also be free of growth hormones as well.
- More high-end foods – like artisan cheeses, smoked salmons, quinoa, and coconut oil – will be available at Aldi supermarkets across the country
