Aduna is a lineup of African superfoods available in a number of different products. Learn more today in our Aduna review.

What is Aduna?

Aduna, found online at Aduna.com, is a UK-based company seeking to introduce African superfoods like baobab to the global market. The company has released a number of supplements and foods that promise to improve your health – including a “pregnancy superfood” supplement.

So far, Aduna has emphasized three African superfoods in particular, including:

  • Baobab
  • Moringa
  • Super-Cacao

The company is also undergoing a crowdfunding campaign on Seedrs.com. London-based Aduna is seeking £325,000 in funding. At the time of writing, they had achieved £270,000 of that funding.

In 2016, Aduna appeared at all 750 Holland & Barrett stores across the UK. They also secured their first grocery listing with Ocado and entered five new international markets. Today, they claim their products are sold in 2,000 stores in 18 countries worldwide.

Key members of the company include co-founder and Managing Director Andrew Hunt and co-founder and NPD Director Nick Salter. Both co-founders had traveled Africa extensively, and saw the potential for African superfoods on the global marketplace. The Aduna website explains that more than 25% of the world’s botanical species originate from Africa – yet less than 1% are found in health and beauty products sold worldwide.

Aduna Products

Aduna describes its products as an “award-winning range of superfood powders and energy bars”. Popular products offered by the company include products made from baobab, moringa, or super-cacao.

Baobab

Baobab is a unique type of African fruit linked to various health benefits. Aduna advertises it as a “pregnancy superfood” and claims that it’s the only fruit in the world that dries on the branch. To make their baobab supplements, Aduna harvests and sieves the fruit to create a 100% natural and organic powder that’s nutrient-rich and supports a wide range of benefits. The only ingredient in the baobab powder is baobab.

The company’s baobab powder provides specific benefits like energy release, immune function, and healthier skin. The powder is also almost 50% fiber (half soluble and half insoluble) and contains more antioxidants than any other whole fruit.

In terms of flavor, baobab has a sweet and citrussy flavor described as “a bit like healthy sherbet”. To take Aduna’s baobab powder, you add it to smoothies, juices, yogurt, oatmeal, or anything you like. Here are the Aduna baobab products available:

Aduna Baobab Powder:

This is a 100% natural fruit powder that only contains pure baobab fruit. It’s priced at 7.99 for 100g.

Aduna Baobab Energy Bar:

This raw energy bar is made from cold-pressed fruits and nuts, and contains two full teaspoons of baobab powder in each serving. It’s free from refined sugar, gluten, wheat, and dairy. The Energy Bar is priced at 1.89 for a single bar or 24.99 for a box of 16.

Moringa

Aduna’s moringa, like the baobab supplement, is available in the form of a powder or energy bar. Moringa is slightly better-known than baobab, mostly because we’ve seen it in a growing number of diet pills over the last few years. Aduna’s moringa is a 100% organic, nutrient-dense wholefood made from naturally dried leaf of the moringa tree.

Why is moringa valuable? Moringa is a popular source of plant-based protein. It also consists of 30% fiber content and contains 6 essential vitamins and minerals. Aduna claims that its moringa is similar to green superfood powders in terms of benefits, but it has one big difference: it tastes pretty good. The company describes its formulas as “pleasant, earthy ‘spinachy’” flavor that many people describe simply as “green”.

The company offers moringa products like:

  • Aduna Moringa Powder
  • Aduna Moringa Energy Bar

You can also buy the Aduna Moringa products as part of a variety pack with other Aduna products, or as part of a gift box.

Super Cacao

The third and final African superfood sold by Aduna is super cacao. The company’s super-cacao comes from Ghana, where it’s made from specially-selected, high-flavanol cacao beans. What’s the difference between cacao and super-cacao? The company claims that their blend contains 8x the flavanols of regular cacao. Flavanols help support cardiovascular health, artery elasticity, and healthy blood circulation, among other problems.

The cacao is also a source of protein and fiber. You can currently purchase the Aduna super-cacao as an energy bar, or in a gift set/variety pack with other Aduna products.

About Aduna

Aduna is a London-based company that sells its products at 2000 stores in 18 countries worldwide. The company is based at the following address:

Canterbury Court
3.24 Kennington Business Park
1-3 Brixton Road
London SW9 6DE

The company’s co-founder, Andrew Hunt, spent his early career working in the ad industry. One day, he decided to volunteer in The Gambia, where he worked with small-scale fruit and vegetable growers. Hunt decided to stay much longer than his initial 6 week volunteer program, and ended up staying for nearly four years. He saw the potential in small-scale African growers, so he decided to take that potential to the next level by starting Aduna.

The company’s other co-founder, Nick Salter, shared Andrew’s passion for Africa. After tasting a drink made from the baobab fruit while on a business trip to Senegal, Nick “decided that this was where his future lay”, explains the company’s About page.

You can contact the company by email at [email protected]. Or, look for Aduna products at Holland & Barrett stores near you. All Aduna products are also available to order online through the official Aduna.com website.
