Voloom – Best Healthy Hair Volumizing Iron For Your Hair?

on

Voloom is a new hair straightener-like device that promises to add volume to your hair in minutes. Here’s our Voloom review.

What is Voloom?

Voloom is a device that, at first glance, looks a lot like a hair straightener or curling iron. However, instead of straightening your hair, Voloom volumizes your hair. You don’t have to use hairspray or tease your hair. Instead, with Voloom, you can just pass the device through your hair to volumize it in minutes.

The makers of Voloom claim the results last “for days”. It also claims to work on all hair types, including fine/thin hair or thick/heavy hair.

How Does Voloom Work?

Voloom works by creating “volume pockets” in the under layers of your hair. This forces the top layer of your hair to lift up and away from your scalp. You control how much volume you want – apply Voloom to your hair for a long period of time for more volume, or just apply it for a minute for less volume.

In order to create volume pockets in your hair, Voloom uses similar technology to a hair straightener: it applies heat to your hair. However, instead of applying that heat evenly to straighten your hair, Voloom applies it with a grid-like, beveled pattern (although it’s not the same as a crimper, as you’ll learn below). This creates heat pockets in the under layers of your hair.

The heat is applied using ceramic-coated plates. The makers of Voloom claim this technology is patent pending. The plates lift and separate individual hairs – so you’re left with a more volumizing look.

Voloom also claims the effects last for days. You don’t need to apply any gels, mousses, or sprays. Instead, with Voloom, the “volume is heat-locked into your hair, so it lasts for days”, according to the manufacturer.

How to Use Voloom

Instead of using Voloom like a straightener or curling iron, you apply it to the under layers of your hair. You don’t pull it through your hair or use it on the ends of your hair. Instead, you clamp and release it on the hair near the scalp and underneath the top smooth layer of your hair.

As the makers of Voloom explain, you only clamp it long enough to say “Voloom” before releasing it.

Before using Voloom, make sure your hair is dry and styled as you like. Part it normally, then clip the top layer of your hair off to the side (Voloom actually includes clips that will help you do this). Apply Voloom to the layer beneath and repeat this process across your lower layer until you have as much volume as you desire.

In terms of temperature, the makers of Voloom recommend testing the device on the lowest heat setting using one small section of hair. Then, you gradually increase the temperature to ensure your hair can handle the heat. In general, those with fine, damaged, or chemically treated hair should use Voloom at temperatures between 320 and 350F, while those with normal, medium, and healthy hair should heat it between 370 and 390F.

What’s the Difference Between Voloom and a Crimper?

You might think that Voloom sounds a lot like a crimper. The makers of Voloom specifically address this in their FAQs, where they talk about how Voloom has been scientifically engineered to create volume and structure without leaving a clear pattern in the hair. Crimpers may create texture, but they also leave a noticeable crimp pattern in your hair. That crimp pattern is caused by the jagged edges – something Voloom doesn’t have.

Voloom claims to replace that saw tooth pattern with a more natural-looking appearance.
