VeganEgg Review
VeganEgg is a 100% plant-based egg substitute that simulates the taste and texture of eggs. Here’s our VeganEgg review.
What is VeganEgg?
VeganEgg is a vegan-friendly simulated egg food product. The food promises to deliver the same taste and texture of eggs. You can also use VeganEgg for baking cookies, muffins, cakes, and more because it has similar baking properties.
The VeganEgg is egg-free, gluten-free, allergen-free, non-GMO, kosher, and dairy free. It’s also free from cholesterol (which is found in normal eggs).
The egg replacement was made by Follow Your Heart, which is the same company that has made foods like Vegenaise and Vegan Cheese. Follow Your Heart is based in Canoga Park, California. Follow Your Heart products are available in 15,000 locations around the world according to this interview on FoodNavigator-USA.com.
The VeganEgg started to hit the market at the end of 2015 and is gearing up for a wider roll around the world in 2016.
What is VeganEgg Made From?
VeganEgg is made from the following ingredients: whole algal flour, whole algal protein, cellulose gum, gellan gum carrageenan, yeast, sea salt, and calcium lactate.
The egg is priced at $6.99 to $7.99 for a 4 ounce package. Each package produces the equivalent of a dozen eggs.
Initially, Follow Your Heart launched VeganEgg in a plastic bag. Eventually, however, the company decided to make their packaging more unique. Today, VeganEgg comes in a cardboard box that looks similar to a half-sized dozen eggs carton. You open that box and there’s an inner bag that you can use to make egg dishes. The egg box is compostable and the inner bag is recyclable.
One of the main differences between VeganEgg and other egg replacements is that VeganEgg is designed to taste good in scrambled eggs, quiches, frittatas, and other egg-based foods. Other egg replacements typically focus on being used in home baking.
By emulating the flavor, texture, and functional properties of VeganEgg, the creators of VeganEgg hope their product is the number one egg simulant of choice for vegans around the world.

What Do Customers Have to Say About VeganEgg?
VeganEgg reviews have been largely positive thus far. The food product currently has a rating of 4.5 stars out of 5 on Amazon.com with a total of 58 reviews thus far.
Some of the positive reviews say:
“The look and texture of these ‘eggs' are weirdly realistic. They are a softer and fluffier than real eggs, and don't have much flavor on their own, so they need other stuff with them, IMO.”
“Vegan Eggs are so good that I could not tell that they were NOT real eggs. My wife made them for me without me knowing. Mean trick but good test of Vegan Egg.”
Meanwhile, negative reviews were mostly from people who “weren’t falling for” the fake eggs.
“Very disapointed. The texture when scrambled is just a little off. Worse, I do not like the taste of this product. I baked brownies with it, and I could still smell and taste the Vegan Egg. I ended up throwing the brownies out.”
Ultimately, VeganEgg reviews are mostly positive online.
About Follow Your Heart
Follow Your Heart is a Canoga Park, California-based health foods retailer that was founded in the 1970s by four friends. They chose the name Follow Your Heart because the name “summed up their business philosophy to always remain true to their ideals”, according to the company’s About Us page.
The company claims to have been one of the first meatless groceries in America. The grocery store remains meatless to this day – which is something that differentiates the store from other surrounding health food retailers like Whole Foods.
In addition to the Follow Your Heart market, there’s a Follow Your Heart restaurant located in the back of the market at the same metro Los Angeles location.
Other Follow Your Heart products include Vegenaise, Vegan Cheese, vegan-friendly dips and spreads, dressings and sauces, and more.
