The company was founded after World War II when Gerry and Franny Didier homesteaded some property on the Yuma Mesa.
However, soil on the Mesa was sandier than the rich soil in the surrounding valleys, which meant it was difficult to grow conventional crops like cotton, grains, and produce.
In the 50s, Gerry started working with peanuts “and found the crop that would become his life’s passion”, explains the official website.
The Peanut Patch was opened in 1977 on the original homestead. After Gerry passed away, the business was passed to his local peanut suppliers. In the 1990s, the families opened The Peanut Patch store.
The website sums up the story by stating that, “The store has changed a great deal over the years as it has expanded to meet the needs of our patrons, but the tradition has been a commitment to the highest quality products available.”
