Sworkit – Smartphone App For Personal Training Video Workouts?

on

Sworkit is a fitness app that provides personalized video workouts across a multitude of mobile devices. Here’s our Sworkit review.

What is Sworkit?

Sworkit – whose name is a portmanteau of “Simply Work It” – is a fitness app that takes its users through 5-minute to 60-plus minute workouts without the need of any exercise equipment.

The app, which is available on iOS, Android, and Amazon Fire devices, has both a free ad-supported version and a Premium version.

Sworkit Features: How Does It Work?

Both the Basic and Premium versions of Sworkit provide strength, stretching, yoga, Pilates, and cardio training video demonstrations featuring real trainers and with verbal instructions and cues.

Users exercise alongside these videos whenever and wherever they want, thanks to the fact that the app is available for a plethora of mobile devices. Workouts can be synced to popular mobile fitness apps such as MyFitnessPal, Google Fit, and the iOS Health app.

The additional features of Sworkit Premium include ad-free workouts, the ability to set custom exercise intervals and to save more than one custom workout, access to low-impact exercises for beginners and older adults, exclusive pre-built workouts, and Ask-A-Trainer one-on-one messaging support.

However, the core functionality of the app – providing dozens of exercises along with verbal instructions – is accessible without having to pay for the Premium version of the app.

Who Makes Sworkit?

Sworkit was developed by Nexercise Apps, a company founded by CEO Benjamin Young and COO Gregory Coleman. Young and Coleman met Ryan Hanna, who had been developing an early version of Sworkit, and brought him onboard as Nexercise’s VP of Product & Engineering in order to bring Sworkit to fruition.

Sworkit Materials

Sworkit’s exercise materials are sourced from certified physical trainers, specifically COO Gregory Coleman, who is former U.S. military and holds a professional certification in personal training.

Sworkit’s training materials were rated #1 by a recent study assessing fitness apps based on the parameters for safety, stretching, progression, and more set by the ACSM (American College of Sports Medicine).

Sworkit Pricing

Sworkit Basic is available as a free, ad-supported download. Sworkit Premium is either $7.99 a month or $59.99 for an entire year, payable through iTunes, Google Play, or the Amazon app store.

Purchasing a yearly subscription offers users the opportunity to save around $36 on the cost of 12 months’ worth of payments.

Sworkit Reviews: What Do Customers Have to Say?

While there’s no information on the app’s rating on the Amazon App Store, Sworkit has been garnering very strong reviews on both the iOS and Android platforms.

On iTunes, Sworkit has a 5-star rating across all of its software versions, sourced from 16,426 ratings. On the Google Play Store, Sworkit has a 4.6 out of 5 star rating from 98,543 users; the vast majority of users have given the product 5 stars.

Pros:

  • No Exercise Equipment Needed – Reviewers say the app is great because there’s never any need to use exercise equipment, as all the strength exercises included in the app make use of body weight alone; the stretching, cardio, yoga, and Pilates exercises likewise don’t require any equipment either.
  • Excellent Value – Users have praised the value of the app, especially the Premium version, by comparing it to the cost of a typical gym membership. Even the free, ad-supported Basic version of the app was praised for its excellent value.
  • Accessibility – Users can get in some exercise whenever and wherever they want, as long as they have access to their mobile device. This has led to Sworkit earning high marks for how accessible it makes exercise and fitness.
  • Expansive Feature Set – The app’s feature set is robust and expansive, especially considering most of the content is available for free with the ad-supported Basic version. Paying for the Premium version provides even more functionality, adding high levels of value for those dedicated to their fitness.

Cons:

  • Can Be Buggy – Like any software product, Sworkit can sometimes be buggy. Users have complained that sometimes the app can crash or fail to display the necessary information along with a particular exercise.

However, as Sworkit is under constant development, the Nexercise team is constantly releasing new updates to counteract any bugs. To its credit, Sworkit’s devs do seem to be dedicated to stomping out bugs as they appear.

Sworkit Review Summary

Downloading and using Sworkit in its free, ad-supported version literally costs you nothing in terms of cash.

This makes it an exceedingly easy decision to make, and also provides you with an opportunity to evaluate many of Sworkit’s standard features for yourself to see if you benefit from them. This makes the app virtually risk-free – provided you don’t hurt yourself following any of the app’s exercise instructions.

Whether or not you want to shell out the subscription cost for the fully-fledged version of Sworkit is a personal decision. Many will find that the free version of the app has enough functionality to not ever warrant paying an additional cent.

Others may want to unlock the premium features. It’s all dependent on your needs and desires, which makes the app flexible and adaptable to the needs of many different users.

This adaptability is a major selling point for the app. Additionally, don’t forget that you can always purchase a monthly subscription and try out the advanced features for a few weeks; if you feel they’re beneficial, you can continue paying your monthly subscription fee or even purchase a full year’s worth of access all at once.

If you feel you’re not really getting any benefit from these advanced features, you can cancel your subscription and go back to using the free version. Overall, Sworkit is most certainly worth a try if you’re passionate about personal fitness. Even if you’re only marginally interested, with basic access to Sworkit being free it’s easy to try before you buy.

As long as you’re not looking for the kind of equipment you can only find at a gym, Sworkit is an excellent alternative to buying an expensive gym membership.
