Rubbermaid FreshWorks – FreshVent Food & Produce Saver Storage?

on

Rubbermaid FreshWorks is a storage system that promises to keep your produce fresh up to 80% longer thanks to its “Fresh Vent” technology. Find out how it works today in our review.

What Is Rubbermaid FreshWorks?

Rubbermaid FreshWorks is a series of plastic containers designed specifically to store your produce. Using a technology called “Fresh Vent”, the containers claim to keep your produce fresh for up to 80% longer.

Rubbermaid recently debuted its FreshWorks lineup through a TV spot. You may have seen the commercial.

Rubbermaid designed its FreshWorks as more than just a way to make money: the official product website claims that Americans waste 23 billion pounds of fresh produce each year because it spoils before we eat it.

That’s 187 pounds of produce per household. In monetary value, that’s about $24 billion, or $192 per household in the United States, that could be saved each year using FreshWorks.

There are three containers available, including a Small, Medium, and Large container. The containers are priced at around $10 each from Amazon.

How Does Rubbermaid FreshWorks Work?

FreshWorks doesn’t look like your ordinary Rubbermaid container. The containers feature a transparent, plastic base that looks like any other storage container. Up top, however, the containers have a funky green and white lid with vents along the side.

That lid sits securely on top of your produce, letting the perfect amount of air into the produce within.

Rubbermaid describes the lid’s vents as a “revolutionary membrane that naturally regulates the flow of oxygen and carbon dioxide”. This creates an ideal atmosphere for your produce to stay farm fresh.

Another key feature of the FreshWorks system is the CrispTray technology, which elevates produce away from moisture and promotes proper airflow to prevent spoilage. CrispTray is a special, vented layer that sits on the bottom of the FreshWorks container. Your produce sits on top.

Rubbermaid FreshWorks Features

Here are some of the key features of the FreshWorks system:

  • You should not wash or cut produce before placing it into the container; just place it directly into the container
  • The FreshVent membrane (the vents along the side) never need to be removed or replaced
  • When you see condensation inside the container, then that’s okay; it means the product is working
  • All components of the system are dishwasher safe
  • The containers are BPA free and made from non-toxic plastics

Rubbermaid FreshWorks Reviews: What Do Customers Have To Say?

FreshWorks has very good reviews on Amazon. The two piece kit has an average rating of 4.4 stars out of 5 with over 250 reviews, while the one piece kits have ratings of 4.5 stars out of 5 with thousands of customer reviews.

The one piece medium kit appears to be the most popular option. Here are some of the pros and cons reported by customers in the Rubbermaid FreshWorks reviews:

Pros

  • Keeps your fruits and vegetables fresh longer
  • All components (lid, base, and tray) are dishwasher safe
  • Easy to use, and you never need to replace the filter
  • The three sizes work well for different types of produce (the small fits a pint of blueberries, the medium size fits a pound of strawberries, and the large size fits a head of lettuce or a large bag of spinach)
  • No need to cut or rinse produce before putting it into the container (in fact, you shouldn’t do this)
  • Reasonable price
  • “I have baby spinach that’s still fresh with no signs of wilting after 3 weeks”

Cons

Not all customers reported a noticeable difference in freshness between ordinary containers and FreshWorks (certain fruits, for example, don’t appear to be as affected by FreshWorks as much as others)

Some reviewers on Amazon have put up comparison photos showing the difference in freshness between produce that was left in the grocery store container – and produce that was left in a FreshWorks container. Time and again, the Rubbermaid FreshWorks container reigns supreme.

Should You Buy Rubbermaid FreshWorks?

Rubbermaid FreshWorks is a popular lineup of plastic storage containers featuring a unique technology to keep your produce fresh. The containers are priced at around $10 per unit on Amazon, or $20 for a two piece set.

Each container features three components, each of which is dishwasher safe. After buying produce – including fruits or vegetables – from the store, you place the product directly inside the Rubbermaid FreshWorks containers without washing or cutting it. Using this method, your produce will stay fresher for a longer period of time than it normally would.

You can buy Rubbermaid FreshWorks containers on Amazon or from retailers like Walmart and Target.
