Rotimatic – Healthy Homemade Fresh Roti Wrap Robot?

on

Rotimatic is the world’s first homemade robot designed to make fresh homemade rotis and wraps. Find out how Rotimatic works today in our review.

What is Rotimatic?

Rotimatic is a home baking machine that takes all of the hard work out of making rotis and wraps. The device – which is about the size of a home printer or fax machine – will measure, mix, knead, flatten, cook, and puff your rotis or wraps.

The company’s official website claims the Rotimatic is “set to revolutoinise kitchens of the future with robotics”. The machine is also packed with first-ever patented technologies.

Roti, for the uninitiated, is a staple bread of a billion people worldwide. It also goes by names like tortilla, wraps, etc.

Rotimatic is made by a Singapore-based company named Zimplistic. Zimplistic first launched Rotimatic back in 2014, where it quickly sold out online. Today, Rotimatic is only available through a waitlist on the official Rotimatic.com website – so it’s tough to buy the $1000 device anywhere.

How to Use Rotimatic

Rotimatic is straightforward to use:

  • Load fresh ingredients.
  • Select the number of rotis you want to make.
  • Tap “play” and get ready to enjoy rotis or wraps.

Some of the key features of the Rotimatic include the fact that it’s one touch, mess-free, smart connected, and economical. It also claims to be easy to clean, easy to make fresh food, and totally healthy for you.

Using Rotimatic, you can make foods that have no preservatives, no chemicals, no additives, rich in vitamins and minerals, high protein, and low carbs.

The makers of Rotimatic claim that by making whole wheat rotis, you can create food with a low glycemic index. A whole wheat roti has a GI of 45, while white bread has a GI of 71 and white rice has a GI of 89.

Rotimatic Features

  • Intelligent: Rotimatic is equipped with patented AI technology and intelligent sensors, so it “does all the thinking for you”. The machine will even make real-time calculations and computations to adapt to the unique characteristics of every doughball.
  • Efficient: The Rotimatic uses a 32-bit microprocessor that runs 10 motors, 15 sensors, and more than 1000 parts like clockwork “maximizing every second throughout the process to churn out one roti in just over a minute”.
  • Automatic: Rotimatic does it all for you using 15 sensors and closed loop circuits. Rotimatic measures, mixes, kneads, flattens, and puffs your rotis and wraps using these 15 sensors.
  • Precise: Rotimatic has a flat pressing mechanism that uses 400kg/880lbs of force to flatten a dough ball into a round flat disc instantly so you “say bye to shapeless rotis”.

Who Makes the Rotimatic?

Rotimatic is made by a Singapore-based company called Zimplistic. Zimplistic was founded by entrepreneur and technology Rishi Israni (co-founder and CEO) along with engineer Pranoti Nagarkar (co-founder and CTO).

The company’s investors include Bosch, NUS Enterprise, DGG Group, and Spring Singapore, among others.

Today, Zimplistic continues to be headquartered in Singapore. The company’s LinkedIn page describes itself as a “new age kitchen robots startup driven by the mission to make healthy eating easy.” The company is focusing on the internet of things space.

Rotimatic is the company’s first device. It’s primarily marketed at the South Asian market, but plans to revolutionize “tortillas, health-wraps and gluten-free verticals globally”.

What Do Customers Have to Say About Rotimatic?

Reviews for Rotimatic started appearing on the internet in 2014. Today, the device has reviews listed on Amazon, although the original product page has since been deleted. Reviews for the Rotimatic are fairly average on Amazon, as the device has an overall rating of 3.1 stars out of 5. Here are some of the pros and cons we learned from the Rotimatic reviews:

Pros

  • “Absolutely amazing”
  • Rotis are soft and fresh (you can also switch to a higher roast setting for crispier rotis)
  • Easy to use, just fill the ingredient containers and press play
  • Takes all the work out of making rotis, tortillas, or whatever you want to call it
  • “Enabled my family to move to a healthier life
  • Saves a lot of money

Cons

  • Noisy (one customer reported noise between 84 dB and 91 dB)
  • No option of oil-free rotis (some people may not want to use oil with their roti)

Should You Buy Rotimatic?

If you frequently eat rotis, tortillas, wraps, or whatever else you want to call them, then Rotimatic is a useful kitchen appliance. However, if you’re only a casual roti eater, then the $999 price tag of the Rotimatic will make it seem like an unnecessary expense.

That being said, Rotimatic sold out online when it first launched in 2014. Today, it’s hard to find online. Even the official website forces you to join a waitlist in order to buy Rotimatic. The device is extremely popular in the Asian and South Asian marketplaces, where it could help you save hundreds of dollars per year.
