What is the Nurugo Phone Camera?
Nurugo was originally developed and released on Kickstarter. It’s was created by an innovative group of entrepreneurs looking to create something special for phones. It’s basically a add on microscope for your phone that will allow you to take long distance and more detailed photos.
How Does Nurugo Work?
They now have several phone cameras and microscopes that have been released and can be purchased on the company website. Primarily, people who invest with the company were the only people who could purchase them. Now however, you can order several difference variants on the company website. They’re supposedly much higher quality than many of the other microscopes available for cell phones to date.
Traditionally, the telescopic and microscopic lenses for phones haven’t exactly been of the highest quality. They claim that their product stands out from the rest though. Manufacturers of other similar products also claim the same, but after reading reviews they usually aren’t very accurate.
Most people seem to be disappointed with similar products. But with the Nurugo that isn’t necessarily the case. It seems that this is potentially a good product. They do claim it has a zoom of up to 400X which is quite substantial.
400x is a major magnification although it is possible, one review I read said it was a rubbish statement. If that’s true, then this is not a quality product. The main problem that people talked about with this phone camera was the same one that many people talk about with similar product, it relies on the phones own digital zoom capabilities.
Apparently the problem with that is the resolution suffers greatly. Vs a true lens that increase zoom and relies on the lens itself. As one review described it, it’s empty magnification.
However, even though it isn’t as good as other lens for actual cameras, the reviews read stated that it is by far the best lens for a camera available. It’s not a conventional light microscope by any means, but as far as smart phones go it seems to be pretty good.
Pretty much all cell phone camera microscopes seem to suffer from the same downsides. For one they have lighting issues, usually they have poor and cheap plastic lenses too. And the focusing system is typically unstable, sloppy or doesn’t work altogether.
The Nurugo designers however seem to step outside the competition and with the use of their illumination system, have conceived a lens that works good. Apparently it’s good enough quality to work against many actual camera lenses.
There are a lot or parts that come in the package so it’s probably easy to lose them. Luckily there is a case to carry everything. One of the pieces that comes with the phone sticks onto the phone in order to center the lens properly.
Apparently it’s a nice feature that helps make it easier for setup and future focus. The clips and parts are mostly designed to work with Apple phones or Samsungs, but also have shown to work with LGs as well.
There is also an application for the lens product to help with focusing and lighting. It can be downloaded from the Google or Apple App stores. Along with the lenses there is also a stand you can use to help keep your phone steady when taking pictures. And that seems to be something that people reviewing the phone loved a lot. After the phone has been assembled with the lenses and stands, as well as software it’s fairly easy to use.
Apparently however, it takes some time to get used to focusing with the lens on. And it depends highly on the type of phone used. If you play with it though, and go through some trial and error, then it seems it works really good. It requires patience apparently to get the lenses to work properly.
How Much Does the Nurugo Phone Camera Cost?
The phone lenses range in price from $60 US to $70 US which is a bit more expensive than other camera lenses but worth it as you typically get what you pay for.
