MealEnders – Taste Sensory Signaling Lozenges Curbs Cravings?

on

MealEnders is a nutritional supplement that promises to make you feel fuller after a meal. Here’s our MealEnders review.

What is MealEnders?

MealEnders is a unique product that just made headlines for appearing on Shark Tank. The company’s products claim to “bridge the gap between physical fullness and receiving that stronger neurological feedback”.

MealEnders comes in the form of a lozenge. Once the meal is over, you take the lozenge. The lozenge signals that your meal is over. It also uses some nifty psychological tricks to encourage your brand to recognize that your meal is over.

On March 3, 2017, MealEnders appeared on Shark Tank – the ABC show where entrepreneurs pitch their products to prospective investors.

Today, the MealEnders lozenges are available for around $17 for a one month (25 piece) supply. Additional discounts are available when ordering multiple packages at the same time, and the company also offers free shipping on all autoship subscriptions.

How Do MealEnders Work?

MealEnders consist of two core parts, including a sweet outer reward layer and a cooling, tingling center. Together, these two sensations train your brain to recognize that your meal is over. Here’s the two step process in action:

  • Layer 1. Sweet Outer Reward Layer: This layer provides a measured dose of “dessert”. It signals your brain that you’re eating something sweet – a signal typically associated with the end of a meal.
  • Layer 2. Cooling / Tingling Center: This center engages the trigeminal nerve to clear the palate, signal the end of eating, and train your brain to recognize when it’s time to stop.

Together, these two layers engage the human brain and body. It’s a combination of behavioral psychology and sensory science. The layers work with your body’s natural hunger and fullness signaling program.

The end result is that dieting is easier. After your meal is over, you stop eating. You won’t be tempted to have something sweet for dessert. You take the MealEnder, and that’s it.

You can use your MealEnders to mark the end of your meal so you don’t overeat. Alternatively, some people use MealEnders as snacks. When you’re tempted to have an unhealthy snack, you just take a MealEnder instead.

The system was developed in partnership with Tami Lyon, MPH, RD, who’s the Chief Nutrition Officer of MealEnders. The system has been in development since 2013, and the company was operating in stealth mode for years before bringing the product to market.

MealEnders Pricing

MealEnders is available in three different packages, including:

  • Solo Pack (25 Pieces): $16.95 USD
  • 3 Pack Bundle (3 x 25 Pieces): $34.95
  • 9 Pack Bundle (9 x 25 Pieces): $89.95

You can also get free shipping by signing up for an autoship program, which means you’ll receive an additional order of MealEnders every month. If you don’t sign up for the autoship, you’ll pay an extra $3.99 for shipping.

Four different MealEnders flavors are available, including Mocha, Citrus, Cinnamon, and Chocolate Mint.

Currently, MealEnders are available to order at the official website or through Amazon.

MealEnders Ingredients: What’s In Them?

MealEnders come in four different flavors, and the ingredients vary between flavors. However, here’s what the ingredients list looks like for the chocolate mint variety:

French vanilla semisweet chocolate (chocolate liquor, sugar, cocoa butter, soya lecithin), dark chocolate coating (sugar, non-hydrogenated palm kernel and non-hydrogenated palm oils, cocoa, nonfat milk, sorbitan monostearate, and soy lecithin, pure vanilla), corn syrup, sugar, cocoa powder, and natural and artificial flavors.

All MealEnders lozenges are free of all drugs, added stimulants, herbs, gluten, and artificial sweeteners. They’re also low in sodium and Kosher.

Nutritional Value for MealEnders

Again, the nutritional value varies between flavors. However, here’s the nutritional flavor for the Chocolate Mint variety, which is virtually identical between flavors:

  • Calories: 15
  • Total Fat: 0g
  • Sodium: 0mg
  • Total Carbs: 2g
  • Sugars: 2g
  • Protein: 0g

Essentially, it’s a 15 calorie wafer with very little of anything.

Who Makes MealEnders?

MealEnders is created and distributed by a company named WillPower Labs, Inc. That company is based in San Francisco, and all MealEnders are made in the United States.

WillPower Labs, Inc. was founded by Mark Bernstein, who is also the current CEO of the company. Mark was tempted to create a product that helped him solve his own weight issues. He wanted to create a product that tasted great, trained you to be a better dieter, and complemented your body’s natural systems.

Mark claims that too many diet companies promote magic elixirs and impossible quick fixes: we’ve all seen 21 day diets, diet pills, magic supplements, and other popular weight loss formulas. In the real world, the secret to losing weight is just to consume fewer calories. MealEnders helps you do that.

The company behind MealEnders claims to have created the product after months of research, including a national test conducted on people across America. The supplement also works while being stimulant-free – which is unique because many diet pills contain caffeine and other stimulants.

Bloomberg claims the company was operating in stealth mode for years after being founded in 2013. The company is based at the following San Francisco address:

38 Keyes Avenue Suite 116

San Francisco, CA 94129

You can contact the company by email at [email protected].

MealEnders Reviews: What Do Customers Have to Say?

MealEnders has been available for sale on Amazon for several months, where the product has collected about 200 customer reviews. So far, MealEnders aren’t very well-received: they have an average rating of 3.1 stars out of 5. There are nearly as many 1 star reviews (27% of all reviews) as there are 5 star reviews (39%). Some of the pros and cons of the lozenges, according to reviewers, include:

Pros

  • Some people feel they work as advertised to prevent mid-meal cravings and to signal fullness at the end of the meal
  • Better than regular candy or treats because they don’t taste as good, which means you’re not tempted to have more
  • They’re not powerful appetite suppressant drugs
  • Works with your psychology with a sort of “Pavlov’s dog” type effect
  • Even the bad reviews agree that the tingling sensation is pleasant

Cons

  • Some people feel it’s not any more effective than a normal after-dinner mint
  • It naturally prevents you from overeating because it takes 20 minutes to dissolve on your tingue
  • Not all people like the flavor of the chocolate
  • Some people claim it tastes like a medicine

Ultimately, based on the reviewers we could see, some people expect MealEnders to immediately prevent them from overeating. In reality, the product is marketed as a willpower-assist tool: if you use it regularly, you can train your brain to avoid overeating. It’s not an instant shortcut to weight loss.

Should You Use MealEnders?

MealEnders use food science, psychology, and behavior science to target the “20 Minute Overeating Zone”. This is the 20 minute period after you eat where your brain hasn’t yet signaled to your body that it’s full. Most of us overeat during this period because we don’t know that we’re full. Instead of eating more food at the end of your meal, you take a MealEnder.

MealEnders are specially-designed lozenges with a sweet, dessert-like outside and a cool, tingling center. By taking them regularly, you can signal your brain that it’s full and that you’re done eating. The people who like MealEnders really seem to like them, while plenty of reviewers dislike the flavor and claim the lozenges are no more effective than an ordinary chocolate mint candy.

Many people swear by MealEnders as a weight loss aid. The company recently debuted on Shark Tank in March 2017 – and it could be the next big thing in the dieting industry. However, MealEnders are clearly not for everyone.

  1. Hi, one quick correction to your article. MealEnders are regulated as a food, not Nutritional Supplement. MealEnders are not a supplement or a drug. Thanks.
