What is Earmo?
Earmo calls itself “the most intuitive smart ear thermometer”. Launched on Indiegogo at a price of around $50, Earmo provides one second temperature readings and an LED touchscreen.
At the time of writing, Earmo had raised about $6,000 of its $35,000 flexible goal. The fundraising campaign will end in May 2017.
Earmo was created by Bongmi, best-known for launching the smart fertility tracker Femometer on Indiegogo last year. Bongmi is based in Hangzhou, China. Earmo itself was “designed by a dad for all anxious parents who struggle with child’s fever”.
How Does Earmo Work?
Using Earmo, you can determine your child’s temperature as safely and quickly as possible. The device provides instant readings (1 second) along with emoticons based on different temperature readings.
The thermometer is also readable at night, which means you don’t have to fiddle with a smartphone light to see temperature readings in the dark.
To use Earmo, you place the device in your child’s ear and press the button, then get a temperature readout in one second. Earmo uses a highly sensitive infrared temperature sensor with an accuracy of plus or minus 0.4 degrees Fahrenheit (0.2 degrees Celsius).
Another unique feature of Earmo is that you can swipe to get previous temperatures. You can track if your child’s temperatures have gone up or down since the last check, for example. Earmo can display up to 5 readings.
After checking your child’s temperature, you can turn to the Earmo app to determine what that means for your child. The Earmo app gives you instant tips on how to help your baby – so even if it’s 3am and you don’t want to bug your doctor, you can still get your baby the assistance he or she needs.
The Earmo app also has the ability to share your baby’s recovery progress to your doctor immediately through text messaging or email.
After a reading, you can disinfect Earmo with an ordinary alcohol wipe. There’s no invasive probe tip or lens filters: there’s just plastic probe that works as gently and safely as possible to make it easy to check temperatures. The tip of the probe is also designed to fit into your baby’s ears without much pulling.

Who Makes Earmo?
Earmo is made by Bongmi. The company was co-founded by Adam Lou, Zesheng Wu, Susan Ma, and Snow Li. Last year, Bongmi successfully raised over $90,000 for its Femometer fertility tracker (240% funding). Now, this year, they’re planning to release Earmo.
The idea behind Earmo started in January 2016. The company completed its model design in August 2016, then launched the first generation in November. By January, they had created the second generation of Earmo. They launched the Indiegogo campaign in April 2017. Worldwide shipping will begin in June 2017.
