About Curcumin Health Benefits

As a health expert, I have seen a lot of trendy supplements come and go. Most of them get hyped up as the next big thing and end up flopping because they do not actually provide any benefit.

I am happy to say that curcumin does not fall under that category. In fact, it is one of the best health substances I have seen in my many years of working in this field.

The health benefits that this amazing chemical provides are outstanding and if there is ever a miracle cure made for every health ailment in existence, I bet it will have curcumin in it.

Let’s dig into the amazing health benefits by curcumin:

1. Preventing and Fighting Off Diabetes

Diabetes is a crippling epidemic that is plaguing many people all over the world. It is categorized as a resistance to insulin in the blood and leads to all kinds of health problems and can even be fatal.

Enter curcumin. Various studies have done comparing the effectiveness of curcumin in fighting diabetes to standard diabetes medication. The results? Curcumin had the same efficiency in decreasing one’s resistance to insulin as the diabetes medication.

This is a simple chemical achieving the same level of effectiveness in combating a disease as a special drug made specifically for that disease. Absolutely incredible! Many studies have corroborated curcumin’s diabetes-fighting properties and some studies have even found that curcumin can help protect diabetes patients from experiencing other crippling side effects of diabetes.

These effects include deterioration of the optical tissue, nerve damage, corollary illness, and even brain damage.

2. Combating Depression

When I was younger, I used to suffer from depression. Unfortunately, I lived in a time where medical science was not nearly as advanced as it is now and most depression sufferers were not given anything to help.

They were just told to chin up and stop being so darned depressed. Thankfully for me, I grew out of my depression and went on to live a happy successful life, but many people do not get that chance.

And nowadays, people suffering from depression just get prescribed medication that turns them into an emotionless zombie. The worst part is that up to 70 percent of depression sufferers still suffer from depression while on those medications. Enter curcumin again.

Many medical scientists have inferred that since curcumin has anti-inflammatory and neurological-boosting properties, that it should be an effective tool in the fight against depression. Curcumin has also proven effective in balancing the hormone levels in the brain to prevent mood swings and keep depressive mood away.

These beliefs about curcumin’s potential for fighting depression led to some studies being conducted and the findings were very promising.

One study showed that curcumin intake led to more serotonin being released in the brain. Serotonin is a hormone that makes negative feelings go away and make you feel really good – so this is very good for those with depression.

And as is the case with diabetes, curcumin’s effects were compared with the effects of common depression medication and it was about equal. Though, I feel that curcumin trumps those medications since it does not have any of the harmful side effects that they have.

And one study showed taking both curcumin and a common depression medication known as Prozac was especially potent in vanquishing the symptoms of depression.

3. Effective in Treating Alzheimer’s Disease

Alzheimer’s Disease is one of the few diseases that is super common but not curable. We have not even advanced to a point of knowing what Alzheimer’s is even caused by.

That said, we have been able to identify certain characteristics of the brain that are exclusive to those suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease. The identified characteristics are a build-up of a kind of protein known as beta-amyloid.

These proteins are further clumped together with severely damaged and dead brain and nerve cells. This build-up severely disrupts proper brain function and seems to be why sufferers of Alzheimer’s disease exhibit the behaviors that they do.

Enter curcumin once again. Medical experts have noted that inflammation of areas of the brain exasperates the crippling effects that this build-up of beta-amyloids and dead cells has on brain function. Curcumin’s potency in reducing inflammation has sparked interest from those in the medical field to see how it can combat Alzheimer’s.

And the findings were incredible. The studies showed that curcumin was (of course) effective in shielding the cells in the brain from inflammation. And that is alone is incredible enough, but there’s more.

The curcumin was also shown to greatly decrease the concentration of those beta-amyloid proteins in the brain. This led to a greater than 30 percent decrease in the size of those build-ups of the proteins and dead cells.

If these results are found in more clinical trials, it would make curcumin more potent in decreasing beta-amyloid levels than all of the other medications being used to treat those with Alzheimer’s. Absolutely incredible!

What Else Can Curcumin Treat?

Curcumin has been tested in a whole lot of different scenarios to see how it affects all kinds of problems.

And the findings have been quite impressive. Curcumin has been shown effective in fighting and preventing irritable bowel syndrome, Crohn’s disease, obesity, liver disease, inflammatory bowel disease, pancreatitis, and kidney disease.

The effectiveness in fighting many of the diseases listed here can be attributed to curcumin’s anti-inflammatory properties. Curcumin has also been proven effective in treating many skin problems due to these properties.

Even skin cancer does not stand a chance against mighty curcumin. Curcumin can also operate as a weight loss supplement as it has proven effective in halting the build-up of fat tissue. On top of that, curcumin supplementation can halt the build-up of fatty deposits in your liver.

Is Curcumin Safe For Consumption?

Of course! There have been no reports of any harmful side effects from taking curcumin and there are no signs that it has any negative effects on the body when consumed.

It is suggested that you take at least two dosages of 750 milligrams of curcumin every day to receive the benefits. Even if you consume it in dosages way beyond that recommended amount – you will be just fine.

In fact, you would probably want to take more than the recommended amount since it is completely harmless. This is why I recommend using curcumin to relieve a wide range of illnesses – even those not listed in this article. I truly feel that curcumin is the closest thing to a fix-all cure that we have so far.
