What is Capillus?
Capillus is a hair regrowth system that involves wearing a hat packed with 82 laser diodes. After wearing the hat, you apply Capillus hair care products to encourage hair growth.

How Do the Capillus Laser Caps Work?
Capillus laser caps work using low-level lasers to energize hair follicles and thereby spur new, natural hair growth.

Under the cap are 82 laser diodes. You activate these diodes (they’re powered by battery) and enjoy hands-free use for 30 minutes.

Scientific Evidence for Capillus
Capillus lists one major study as evidence that its laser cap system works. That study can be found here on ClinicalTrials.gov. It took place in 2013 and was sponsored by Capillus.
The randomized study showed that the Capillus laser cap produced a 51% increase in hair count compared to a placebo device.
Basically, a group of 44 females aged 18 to 60 were separated into two groups. One group received incandescent light treatment on their scalp (the placebo group) while the other group received the Capillus treatment.
Both groups received light treatment on a shaved portion of their scalp and received no light treatment on another portion of their scalp (researchers shaved both portions at the beginning of the study). Photographs were taken of the shaved areas.
After comparing photographs and physical evidence of the shaved areas, researchers concluded that Capillus led to a 51% increase in hair growth after 16 weeks of treatment. Participants performed one 30 minute treatment on themselves every other day for 16 weeks.
One problem with this study is that it didn’t actually require the women to be balding or suffering from hair loss. Furthermore, the area of the scalp that experienced 51% hair growth was a shaved portion of the scalp – not a totally bald area. So it doesn’t prove that hair magically regrew in areas where it wasn’t growing before. It just shows that hair regrew in an active growing area faster after light treatment with Capillus.
