What is BurstFit?
BurstFit is a fitness program created by Dr. Josh Axe, a naturopathic doctor who has appeared on The Dr. Oz Show and other media outlets. BurstFit makes bold promises about its benefits – including the ability to burn up to 3 times more fat and calories than a traditional cardio workout.
Like many exercise programs, BurstFit is specifically marketed towards those who are “tired of working out and not seeing the results you’d like”, explains Dr. Axe on the official sales page.
There are multiple BurstFit programs available, including BurstFit Original and BurstFit Fire. Dr. Axe also offers webinars online through his official website, where you can listen to his fat burning advice for free.
Most of the testimonials on the BurstFit page are from women (including women of all ages). However, there are some testimonials from men as well. You’re going to be doing workouts with names like “The Bowen Butt Lift”, and there are entire sections of the program dedicated to removing cellulite, so this program is primarily targeted towards women.
How Does BurstFit Work?
The original BurstFit program comes in the form of three DVDs. There are 7 total workouts across these DVDs with a total of 20 minutes in each workout.
By following along with these training programs, you can purportedly burn up to 3 times more fat.
The secret power behind most BurstFit workouts lies in its high intensity interval training, or HIIT. This trendy new exercise system involves working out for short bursts of time with short periods of rest in between. BurstFit recently introduced a program called BurstFit Fire. Just like the original program, this program features Dr. Josh Axe and Suzanne Bowen leading you through various workouts.
Fire, just like the original BurstFit, relies on HIIT. If you have time to work out for 20 minutes a day, 5 days a week, then the program guarantees you’ll see results. Fire is targeted towards people who don’t have a lot of time to work out – like busy working professionals or parents.

Occasionally, Dr. Josh Axe hosts webinars online. These webinars promise to teach you how to master your metabolism, shrink your waistline, and “banish cellulite for good.” They’re online workshops that explain some of the BurstFit philosophies of weight loss.

BurstFit claims that spaces are limited and that the online webinars “always fill up”. They’re available for free online. We didn’t have trouble signing up for a webinar at the last minute, so I’m not sure if they ever actually “run out” of spots.
Who is Dr. Josh Axe?
Dr. Josh Axe is a physician that has also made a name for himself through various media outlets. He’s a regular radio host, for example and has a rapidly-growing online presence (thanks to BurstFit and Josh’s official website at DrAxe.com).
Dr. Axe is a Certified Nutrition Specialist and an “expert in natural medicine”, explains his official website. His motto is “food is medicine”. He doesn’t list much biographical information online. However, he does not appear to be a medical doctor: he always lists himself as a “doctor of natural medicine” – which is a significantly different standard than a medical doctor.
In addition to hosting a radio show, Dr. Axe has published a book called the Real Food Diet Cookbook. He also works with American Olympians and traveled to the 2012 games in London.
In any case, Dr. Axe focuses on recommending natural remedies, healthy whole foods, and exercise training based on HIIT techniques.
Should You Use BurstFit to Lose Weight?
Research on high intensity interval training (HIIT) shows that it can be more effective than traditional cardio exercises for losing weight. If you only have 20 to 30 minutes per day to work out, then you can purportedly lose weight with Dr. Axe’s BurstFit programs.
BurstFit Fire and Original are both very similar, although Fire is targeted towards those who have less time to devote to exercise. With both programs, you’re paying for 3 DVDs and a handful of different HIIT workouts. The workouts are led by Dr. Axe or his training partner Suzanne Bowen and guide you through the workouts.
