Brita and reigning NBA MVP Steph Curry have teamed up to launch a commercial creation contest called Brita Splash Studio. What is the project and why is Curry involved? Let’s take a closer look.

What is the Brita Splash Studio?

Brita Splash Studio was founded on the idea that water doesn’t get enough airtime. When you turn on the TV, you’ll see plenty of commercials for beer and soft drinks, but you’ll never see a commercial for water – despite its ubiquitous health benefits.

Brita Splash Studio wants to change that. Brita – the water filter company – has teamed up with reigning NBA MVP Stephen Curry to launch Splash Studio, which is a campaign to get fans, health advocates, school, and filmmakers to make water a star.

With the help of Brita Splash Studio, creatives are encouraged to make their own water commercial that will be able to compete with soft drink and beer commercials.

The maker of the winning commercial will receive $25,000 along with the opportunity to re-create the advertisement with the help of Curry.

The winning commercial – featuring Curry himself – will then be aired at the start of the 2016-2017 NBA season.

As Brita explains, “the world’s best beverage doesn’t get the love it deserves. You can change that.”

The water filter company wants users to use the online studio to create their own commercial. Or, you can film your own 100% original commercial.

First place wins $25,000 as well as a trip to the Bay Area to see Curry play, including airfare, hotel, and a VIP game day experience.

There are also four second place prizes, including four authentic Stephen Curry game-worn jerseys. There are five third-place prizes, including prize packs filled with Brita and Under Armour SC30 gear.

It’s Not About Brita

Yes, Brita Splash Studio is sponsored by Brita. But the company is encouraging people to make commercials about drinking water. They’re not giving any advantages to people who mention Brita products or filtering water in their commercials: they just want to create an ad for water.

Rules of the Brita Splash Studio Contest

The contest is running between March 8 and May 31, with each submission being judged on its creativity, impact, and originality.

Participants cannot use any trademarked music in their commercial video, nor can they use brand names, celebrity likenesses, or any company logos.

On July 1, 2016, Brita will narrow down the submissions to four finalists. Then, Brita will ask the public for help to pick the ultimate winner, which will be announced on August 30, 2016.
