Everyone wants to live a healthy life.

Many people have superficial reasons for this such as wanting to fit into their clothes better or wanting to finally walk around the beach shirtless with confidence, etc.

But these superficial reasons don’t accurately capture the foundational motivation for people wanting to enjoy more health and vitality.

The real reason people seek health is because they want to remain on this planet for as long as humanely possible.

Blue Zone began as a National Geographic expedition that was to explore “Blue Zones”, which are areas on the planet that are home to groups of individuals that live up to 100 years old.

The people in these zones live up to age 100, 10 times more than those of us in America. Because of this amazing fact, Dan decided to take the National Geographic team to these Blue Zones to determine what influenced these greater lifespans.

The identified Blue Zones are:

  • Ikaria, Greece
  • Loma Linda, California
  • Sardina, Italy
  • Okinawa Japan
  • Nicoya, Costa Rica

Even those these locations spread quite literally all over the planet, they are connected through a number of similar characteristics.

What emerged from this study was the concept of the Power 9, which are the shared characteristics all people in Blue Zones share.

The findings of these studies were compiled into two books called “Blue Zone Solution” and “Thrive”, as well as a number of public talks, including TED and others.

This work is truly revolutionary because never before have we actively categorized ways to extend life. This, in a way, is a step towards immortality.

Ok, that may be a bit extreme, but still, Dan has done something awe-inspiring here. Living to age 100 used to be a game of chance, some made it, some didn’t. There was never a scientific reason why.

What Dan has revealed to the world is that there’s a science to longevity. That there’s actual steps people can take to drastically extend their lifespan that is more detailed than the vague advice of eating healthy.

People that follow the advice present in his books, talks, and website will be on the path that leads to not only a healthier life, but a longer one.
