ProTeva Plus Review

ProTeva Plus is a nutritional supplement that claims to help solve your “bathroom troubles” – seriously, that’s the wording used on the official product packaging. Here’s our review.

What is ProTeva Plus?

ProTeva Plus is a dietary supplement that promises to support your prostate, bladder, and kidney health using natural ingredients.

These three organs are the three critical players in your urinary system.

The supplement is targeted towards middle-aged or elderly men who may have trouble sitting for long periods of time without needing to pee.

ProTeva Plus is priced at around $60 per bottle and is made by a company named NorthStar Nutritionals.

How Does ProTeva Plus Work?

ProTeva Plus cites a study from Harvard that found that men with high levels of selenium in their system had healthier prostates. So ProTeva Plus includes high levels of selenium.

ProTeva Plus also cites another study that found that men who consumed large amounts of tomatoes had healthier prostates. Tomatoes contain antioxidants like beta-carotene, tocopherols, and lycopene, all of which have been linked to better prostate health.

ProTeva Plus includes an extract made from “certified non-GMO tomatoes”.

By taking the softgel ProTeva Plus capsules daily, you can improve the health of your prostate and begin feeling relief from symptoms within as little as two weeks.

Other key ingredients in ProTeva Plus include zinc and vitamin D3. You can see the full ingredients list below.

As you can see, the supplement doesn’t exactly contain high levels of any one specific ingredient.

There’s a surprisingly small dosage of lycopene, for example, despite the fact that the manufacturer claims Lycopene is one of the most valuable ingredients within ProTeva Plus. There’s just 1.5mg of lycopene in each 2 softgel serving. To put that number in perspective, there’s 23.3mg of lycopene in an average serving of spaghetti sauce, and even watermelon has 13mg of lycopene in a single wedge. In other words, ProTeva Plus isn’t the best way to get lycopene.

Selenium is another ingredient that is prominently advertised by the makers of ProTeva Plus but is only found in trace amounts in the actual supplement. The Harvard study, for example, involved men taking 200mcg of selenium per day for prostate health. ProTeva Plus includes just 24mcg in each two capsule serving.

There’s actually another major problem with selenium: that same Harvard study that the makers of ProTeva Plus cite as evidence for their supplement was actually stopped three years early (in 2011) because vitamin E and selenium were showing no connection to better prostate health.

In fact, men who were taking selenium were actually observed to be at a higher risk of high-grade prostate cancer. You can read more about why Harvard ended the study here.

Meanwhile, some of the other key ingredients in ProTeva Plus – like saw palmetto extract – have traditionally been used to boost vitality in men but have demonstrated little evidence supporting these claims in modern scientific studies.

Ultimately, the manufacturer of ProTeva Plus makes bold claims about its ingredients without ever backing up these claims with real scientific evidence. Making matters worse is that ingredients like selenium might actually increase your risk of prostate problems according to the results of the Harvard study that the manufacturer uses as evidence.
