MyDx is a chemical testing system that can be used to identify the molecular makeup of food, water, air, and cannabis. Find out everything you need to know about the futuristic app and device today in our review.
What is MyDx?
MyDx is a system that can help you analyze chemicals in the water you drink, the air you breathe, the foods you eat, and the cannabis you smoke.
The system consists of a MyDx Analyzer & Sensor as well as a MyDx App. You place the material you’re testing in the sensor, then wait for data to be transmitted via Bluetooth to a connected smartphone.
In just three simple steps, you can test solids, liquids, and gases using four different sensors inside the device. There are multiple types of sensors available, including sensors designed specifically to test foods, liquids, air, and cannabis.
How Does MyDx Work?
MyDx is an abbreviated form of “My Diagnostic”. It calls itself “electronic nose technology in the palm of your hand.” It’s a portable analyzer that uses advanced sensors to detect molecules in vapor.
All you need to do is place a sample in the testing chamber of MyDx. Then, the device will use a “gas flow over-the-sensor system” to force the sample to release chemicals into the air. Those chemicals are then captured and analyzed to determine which chemicals are present. Broken down, here’s what the three step process looks like:
- Step 1) The testing chamber creates vapor
- Step 2) Insulating materials expand
- Step 3) Sensors produce different response patterns to deliver an accurate chemical profile
Types of MyDx Sensors
There are currently four different MyDx sensors available, including one to test food, water, air, and cannabis. Here’s a brief overview of each sensor:
Canna Dx
MyDx is arguably best known for Canna Dx, a sensor that lets you identify the most important chemicals in cannabis. Then, you can record how you feel when you use that specific chemical combination. Using Canna Dx, you can keep track of the amount of THC, CBD, and other chemical compounds in your cannabis. Then, you compare that with an extensive database of chemical combinations and their associated feelings.
Using this system, you can keep track of how different strains make you feel. Some strains might make you sleepy, for example, while others make you feel creative or excited.
So far, the Canna Dx sensor is the first sensor produced by the company. No other sensors have yet been released.
Organa Dx
This reusable sensor lets users test the level of pesticides in the foods you eat. As MyDx explains, the sensor “Gives you the ability to trust and verify that the organic food that you have purchased is free of harmful pesticides.”
Aqua Dx
Aqua Dx is a sensor that promises to detect harmful chemicals like mercury and lead in the water you drink. You can test and verify the quality of your drinking water. It’s a reusable sensor specifically targeted towards “travelers or people who live abroad where water regulations are less stringent.”
Aero Dx
Aero Dx measures air quality to help ensure you’re breathing clean, healthy air. It’s marketed towards those who live in urban areas or certain high-pollution countries where air quality is a frequent and pressing issue. With Aero Dx, you can monitor the air quality around you at all times and see how it changes according on time of day or location.
MyDx App
The MyDx app is a crucial part of the system. After you place your sample in the MyDx analyzer, that information will be sent to the app.
The app is led by an artificial intelligence program called “Mollie” (short for Molliecule). Mollie helps you use the app to its full potential. It’s kind of like the paperclip in old Microsoft Office software.
Some of the key features of the app include:
— View and analyze results from the MyDx system
— Rate and share experience with different cannabis strains, including your effects
— Search through strains based on how you’re feeling at this very moment (like if you have migraines, you can find a strain specially designed to help with migraines)
Ultimately, the MyDx is half analysis tool, half socially-powered cannabis advice.
The app is free to download for Android and iOS and you don’t need the MyDx system to use it.

Does It Actually Work?
The biggest question about MyDx and its cannabis testing sensor is whether or not it actually works. MyDx has posted a White Paper on its official website claiming that their sensor is accurate at identifying different cannabis strains. You can view that White Paper here. In that test, the company claims to have identified hundreds of different strains of cannabis.
There are few other tests on the MyDx’s accuracy. Green Flower Media performed a test using 5 different strains of cannabis, and MyDx came back inaccurate on all of them. MyDx refutes the results of that test, claiming that the testing was unscientific.
In any case, we need to see more independent testing and information before we can make any reasonable conclusions about the MyDx’s accuracy. However, this technology could be one of the most important cannabis testing – not to mention food, water, and air testing – devices of the future.
