What is a 4moms mamaRoo?
mamaRoo is an infant seat made by a company called 4moms (4moms.com). The seat sways side to side and bounces gently up and down while in use. The motions are specifically designed to replicate the feeling of being held by a parent.
There are five unique motions available:
— Car Ride
— Kangaroo
— Free Swing
— Rock a Bye
— Wave
The original mamaRoo is priced at $239.99 and available for sale online on Amazon and in-store at places like Babies R Us.
There’s also a smaller-sized model called the rockaRoo which starts at $159.99.
4moms was created in 2005 when two men named Rob Daley and Henry Thorne decided to meet for lunch. 6 hours later, according to the company’s official website, “they’d decided to form a company.”
Today, the company employs over 100 people and is based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The official name of the company is Thorley Industries, LLC, although it’s doing business as 4moms.
How Does mamaRoo Work?
mamaRoo is based on the idea that babies are most comfortable when they’re being held by a parent. When holding their child, parents will typically bounce the child up and down and sway them gently side to side.
Of course, mamaRoo isn’t the first child seat that moves around. There are other child seats that vibrate, or swing back and forth like swings.
As mamaRoo’s sales video explains, “parents don’t vibrate or swing like swings. They bounce [and] sway.”
The mamaRoo child seat moves back and forth “through the use of advanced robotics.” The movement is gentle enough to keep the baby safe, calm, and secure in the seat at all times.
The mamaRoo is also a “smart” child seat. It has an electronic display on the bottom from which parents can control the motion of the seat. Tech-savvy parents can also download the mamaRoo app for Android and iOS. This app lets you remotely control the motion of the seat and switch from car ride to kangaroo motion, for example.
Your phone connects to the mamaRoo through Bluetooth.
You can also change the “music” which comes out of the device. Yes, there are attached speakers built into the device. Those speakers can play a number of different preset tunes, including:
— Rain
— Fan
— Ocean
— Heart
You can even play music through an auxiliary cord. Say, if you want to introduce your child to classical music at an early age.
You can control the speed and intensity of the mamaRoo motion from the electronic base – or through the app. You can also control the volume of the music.
Other key features of the mamaRoo include:
— Reversible toy balls that dangle above the child’s head while resting in the chair
— Reclinable seat that can adjust to any position for maximum comfort – including fully reclining
— Reversible newborn insert that provides added support and comfort for newborns (this is sold separately and must be purchased from the online store at Shop4moms.com
The maximum child weight for the mamaRoo is 25 pounds, although the product is not recommended for children who can sit up unassisted.
It comes in all of the following colors:
— Classic Black
— Classic Grey
— Designer Plush
— Multi Plush
— Silver Plush
The mamaRoo is powered through an AC adapter. Plug the AC adapter into your wall and the chair is good to go. No batteries are required.

Should You Use the mamaRoo?
The mamaRoo is designed for tech-savvy parents who want to give their children the best tools necessary in their first few months on the planet.
It’s the baby seat of the future. Just like the Jolly Jumpers, swinging seats, and vibrating chairs that came before it, mamaRoo aims to capture customers who want to give their kids the very best they deserve.
The seats are also slightly smaller than a traditional baby chair. They’re far more streamlined. The mamaRoo claims to be half the size of traditional swings, which might make it a good option for those who live in smaller spaces – like an apartment. As you will see on the stores that sell them, the mommaRoo has great reviews.
