Ecklonia Cava Review
Ecklonia Cava is a brown seaweed prized for its health benefits.
Find out if you should really start eating the supplement known as “brown algae” today in our review.
What is Ecklonia Cava?
Ecklonia cava is an edible algae that blooms naturally off the coasts of Japan, Korea, and China.
Also known as brown algae or brown seaweed, ecklonia cava has been linked to some powerful health benefits to its high levels of antioxidants, anti-inflammatories, and phloroglucinols.
Today, you can buy ecklonia cava from many health food stores and online supplement retailers, where it’s sold as a nutritional supplement and ingested to support general wellness.
What Are the Benefits of Ecklonia Cava?
Most of ecklonia cava’s benefits are attributed to the high levels of antioxidants. Antioxidants target free radicals within the body, which can reduce your risk for various diseases and illnesses while also improving the functionality of your immune system.
Scientifically speaking, researchers have attributed the following health benefits to ecklonia cava:
— Reduced Blood Pressure
— Better Blood Glucose Management
— Anti-inflammatory Effects Throughout The Body
— Anti-allergic Potential
— Enhanced Hair Growth
The last benefit is particularly surprising. Some clinical studies have shown that applying the compound topically can enhance hair growth in the area.
In any case, Asian diets are famous around the world for being healthy, and many of those who live in Asian countries consume seaweed every day. Researchers wanted to determine which special qualities made seaweed such a valuable health food.
How to Use Ecklonia Cava
Ecklonia cava needs only a low dosage in order to work effectively. The brown algae has noticeable benefits on your blood pressure and blood glucose in dosages as low as 100mg.
If you’re ingesting the seaweed as a food, then you’ll probably be eating dosages higher than 100mg. So far, scientific studies have indicated that higher doses lead to more noticeable benefits with minimal negative side effects.
Typically, participants in the studies listed below ingested 400mg of ecklonia cava once per day. Modern ecklonia cava extract supplement pills also tend to have a dose of around 400mg. If you want to maximize the health benefits of the unique seaweed, then 400mg is a good dosage to aim for.
Scientific Studies on Ecklonia Cava
To date, there have been dozens of studies performed on ecklonia cava. However, two of the studies get most of the attention due to their surprising results. Those two studies both took place in Korea and demonstrated the possible surprising benefits of ecklonia cava supplementation.
2012 Study Shows Ecklonia Cava Can Significantly Lower Body Fat and Cholesterol
Want to lose weight while also lowering levels of bad cholesterol? Of course you do. Ecklonia cava demonstrated those properties in clinical trials published in 2012.
Those trials took place over 12 weeks and measured the effects of ecklonia cava polyphenols (taken orally) on the health of 97 overweight male and female Korean adults. Participants were separated into three groups: a high dosage group, a low dosage group, and a placebo group.
Here’s what researchers concluded after 12 weeks of study:
“Both LD [low dosage] and HD [high dosage] groups showed significant decreases in BMI, body fat ratio, waist circumference, waist/hip ratio, total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, total cholesterol/high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol and atherogenic index (AI) after 12 weeks, as compared with the placebo group.”
Ecklonia cava was observed to significantly improve the overall health of low dosage and high dosage participants, especially in terms of lowering body fat, reducing levels of total cholesterol and LDL (bad) cholesterol.
This study is most often cited as the landmark study that established ecklonia cava’s benefits for blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, and overall health and wellness.
Study from 2012 Examines Effectiveness of Ecklonia Cava as Cholesterol Treatment
A similar study was published in the Journal of medicinal food in November 2012. That study also took place over a 12 week period, during which 46 individuals received 400mg of ecklonia cava once per day.
After a 12 week period, the individuals that took ecklonia cava were observed to have significantly better cholesterol levels than a placebo group. Here’s what the participants exhibited after a 12 week period:
— Significantly Decreased Levels Of Total Cholesterol
— Significantly Decreased Levels Of C-reactive Protein
— Significantly Smaller Hip Circumference
Furthermore, researchers also observed no unwanted side effects. They found that ecklonia cava treatment was “effective and safe without significant adverse events or abnormal laboratory findings.”
