BrainGevity – Healthy Brain Function Nootropic Supplement?

on

BrainGevity is a cognitive supplement that claims to support and preserve healthy brain function. Does it really help to enhance cognitive ability? Find out today in our BrainGevity review.

What Is BrainGevity?

BrainGevity is a nutritional supplement that uses six different ingredients to enhance the power of your brain.

Unlike many other supplements sold online today, BrainGevity doesn’t make claims that it will “supercharge” your brain or “skyrocket” intelligence levels. Instead, it makes more modest claims – like that it will “support and preserve” healthy brain function. In other words, the supplement doesn’t claim to raise your brain function it all – it just claims to maintain your existing brain function.

Understandably, the active ingredients in BrainGevity aren’t the most powerful nootropic compounds. There are omega fatty acids, for example, vitamin D3, green tea extract (decaf), and curcumin. All of these compounds have been proven to help your body in some way.

In any case, BrainGevity calls itself a “daily multivitamin for your brain”. It’s priced relatively high compared to other nootropics, priced at $69 per bottle (although you can save money by buying multiple bottles or by ordering a subscription plan).

Does BrainGevity work as advertised to “support and preserve” your cognitive ability? Let’s find out how BrainGevity works.

How Does BrainGevity Work?

BrainGevity contains just six active ingredients, including:

-Optimized Curcumin: This antioxidant claims to support and promote optimal brain health as you age. It combats free radicals in the brain so you experience less “mental fog”, among other cognitive problems.

-Omega-3 DHA: These fatty acids support GABA levels in the brain.

-Fisetin: Fisetin is a flavonol antioxidant found in a variety of nutritional supplements sold online today. In BrainGevity, it’s added to the formula to “help manage oxidative stress.”

-Omega-3 EPA: These fatty acids help maintain healthy cognitive functionality.

-Decaffeinated Green Tea Extract: Helps support a healthy body and mind.

-Vitamin D3: Helps support overall brain structure and function, as well as immune function.

Unlike many other cognitive supplement manufacturers on the market today, the makers of BrainGevity actually give us the full dosage information behind their formula. We know that there’s 500% of your daily value of vitamin D, for example, as well as 1.056g of total omega 3 fatty acids (600mg DHA, 300mg EPA).

There’s also 500mg of curcumin. We typically see curcumin used as an antioxidant, although it’s not often seen in cognitive health supplements. Turmeric, by the way, is the natural chemical that gives Indian curry its flavor and yellow color. It’s also found in mustards and is traditionally used in ancient Chinese and Indian medicine.

The University of Maryland Medical Center reports that the typical dose for a standardized curcumin powder is 400 to 600mg, taken 3 times per day – so the 500mg dose in BrainGevity is right where we like to see it. They claim that turmeric’s powerful antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and circulatory effects “may help prevent and treat neurodegenerative diseases” like Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, multiple sclerosis, and more.

Meanwhile, other ingredients like green tea extract (70mg) are also rich with antioxidants like EGCG. However, Examine.com reports that significant health effects in humans are noted only at high doses – like 400 to 500mg EGCG per day. Considering that most green tea extracts contain 50% EGCG, we would have liked to have seen a higher dose in BrainGevity.

Meanwhile, the omega fatty acids also play a crucial role in this formula. Fatty acids are known as one of the best ways to reduce your risk of neurodegenerative conditions. Fatty acids line the myelin sheath, which is the protective coating around your neurotransmitters. They also play crucial roles throughout your entire nervous system. The 1000mg dose of omega 3 fatty acids in BrainGevity is considered a strong daily dose – which is what we like to see.

The makers of BrainGevity go into greater detail about the science behind each ingredient at this page here.

However, it’s important to note that BrainGevity has never been studied in clinical trials. The supplement has not gone through any research of its own. Instead, the makers of BrainGevity rely on other research on the individual ingredients in BrainGevity.

BrainGevity Ingredients

Here’s what the full list of ingredients looks like in BrainGevity. The doses listed below are for one serving of 4 softgels (30 servings per container). You take 4 softgels daily to support cognitive health.

-Vitamin D (Cholecalciferol): 2000 IU (500% Daily Value)

-Fish Oil Concentrate: 1.584g (1.056g of Total Omega-3 Fatty Acids with 600mg of DHA and 300mg of EPA)

-Longvida Curcumin Extract: 500mg

-Green Tea Extract (Leaves): 70mg

-Fisetin: 66.6mg

-Peppermint Oil: 40mg

Other Ingredients: Gelatin capsule (bovine gelatin, glycerin, purified water, titanium dioxide, turmeric, peppermint oil, yellow beeswax, soy lecithin, and mixed tocopherols)

The peppermint oil in the formula is added in both the fill and the capsule shell to enhance the flavor. We typically see flavoring compounds added to fish oil supplements to mitigate the “fishy” flavor and the dreaded fishy aftertaste.

What Do Customers Have to Say About BrainGevity?

BrainGevity appears to have just recently launched online. Therefore, no reviews or other information about the company is currently available. We’ll update this post when we find any verified, independent reviews posted online.

Who Makes BrainGevity?

BrainGevity is made by a company named Black Brain Health, LLC, based at the following California address:

1395 Garden Highway, Suite 250
Sacramento, CA 95833

You can contact the company by phone at 844-438-4891. Or, contact their customer service department by email at [email protected].

There’s very little information about BrainGevity available online today. A trademark was filed for the supplement’s name back in April 2016 – so the supplement just recently launched.

We know a little more information about Black Brain Health. According to this page, the company was launched by Dr. Keith Black in 2012. That page describes the company as a “small, fairly new organization in the food preparers industry located in Sacramento, CA.”

The company purportedly has $100,000 in yearly revenue and 5 employees.

Should You Use BrainGevity to Support Cognitive Health?

BrainGevity is a cognitive supplement that doesn’t claim to enhance your cognitive ability: it just claims to support your existing cognitive ability. The supplement doesn’t contain stimulants or dangerous nootropic compounds. Instead, it contains a safe blend of omega 3 fatty acids, antioxidants (like curcumin and green tea extract), and vitamin D.

The dosage isn’t particularly high – especially considering that you’re paying $70 per bottle for BrainGevity. You can purchase all of the ingredients separately (and at higher doses) from retailers like Amazon. You can buy a vitamin D supplement, omega fatty acid supplement, green tea extract supplement, and the other ingredients all for less than $70 per month.

If you’re willing to pay for the convenience of BrainGevity, then it’s available for purchase online today. However, don’t expect this to supercharge your brain power overnight – it’s not that kind of supplement.
