Acer Leap Ware – Healthy Living Smartwatch Fitness Tracker?

on

Acer Leap Ware is a $150 fitness watch that claims to measure your stamina. Find out everything you need to know about the quirky wearable today in our review.

What Is The Acer Leap Ware?

Acer just released a new fitness tracker called the Leap Ware. It will be part of the company’s Liquid Leap lineup of fitness devices – which so far includes heart rate monitors and stress measuring tools priced at under $200.

What’s the difference between the Acer Leap Ware and the thousands of other fitness trackers on the market? The main difference is that the Leap Ware claims to measure your “stamina”. As far as we know, no other fitness tracker currently measures stamina.

The Leap Ware is priced at $149. It will be released at the end of June 2017. In terms of aesthetics, the tracker looks like a Pebble Time Round – it’s a classic looking, round-faced watch-style wearable.

In addition to stamina, the Leap Ware will measure heart rate, stress, fatigue, and UV ray exposure.

Acer Leap Ware Features

The Acer Leap Ware watch has not yet been released. We don’t know full features about the Acer Leap Ware at this time However, below are the features and tech specs we know about the wearable so far:

  • Battery Life: Acer claims their Leap Ware will last 3 to 5 days on a single charge.
  • Size: 42mm watchface with 20mm bands.
  • Bands: Bands can be swapped out; available in navy blue or light brown colors (optional leather strap available).
  • Mobile Support: Doesn’t use Android Wear, so you’ll need to pair the Leap Ware to your Android or iPhone using the company’s Liquid Life app.
  • Fitness Tracking: The Liquid Life app lets you set your own fitness goals or compete with friends (assuming your friends own Acer wearables).
  • Material: Stainless steel bezel, plastic material throughout the rest of the watch; most early reviews indicate the watch is well-built and feels sturdy.
  • Display: Transflexive display (which means you can see it more easily when used outdoors in direct sunlight); however, early reports claim that the backlight is “disappointingly dim” and “it’s still next to impossible to read clearly” in bright sunlight; reports also indicate the resolution is low and the colors “are fairly muted”.
  • Controls and UI: There are two control buttons on the sides of the watch that sit flush (they don’t protrude out); one button turns the screen on and off, while the other activates a small LED torch for people who run or exercise at night.
  • Touchscreen: The Leap Ware has a touchscreen display, although early reviews indicate that “tapping and swiping on the touchscreen takes an age”, so the touchscreen isn’t as responsive as other wearables on the market.
  • Apps: Since the Leap Ware doesn’t use Android Wear, you won’t be able to install Android Wear apps on your wearable; so you may be restricted to the Acer apps pre-installed on your watch at launch.
  • Liquid Life App: The Android and iOS Liquid Life app is a great app, by all early reviews; it has features like push notifications from your phone to your wrist, music playback controls, fitness data recording, and user-friendly graphs and tables.

Acer Leap Ware Pricing

The Acer Leap Ware will retail for $149. It will be released at the end of June / start of July in North America.

Europe, Asia, and the rest of the world are expected to get the Leap Ware later in summer 2017 at a price of around €139.

Should You Buy the Acer Leap Ware?

The Acer Leap Ware is priced competitively compared to other wearables on the market. It offers several unique features from its competition – like fatigue and stamina tracking. However, early reports indicate that the Leap Ware has some problems – like a sluggish touchscreen, a dim display, and poor app support.

Nevertheless, those same reviews indicate that the watch feels pretty good: it has a sturdy design, an aesthetically-pleasing watchface, and a great price point.

Watch for the Acer Leap Ware watch to arrive at the end of June at a price of around $150.
