UberEATS is a new app available for free for iOS and Android. The app delivers foods and beverages to your house using Uber drivers. Find out how it works today in our review.
What is UberEATS?
UberEATS is a free mobile app available through the Google Play Store or iTunes App Store.
The app was built to “get the food you want, from the local restaurants you love, delivered at Uber speed.”
Basically, the app takes your food order, contacts a local Uber driver, and uses that Uber driver to pick up and deliver the food to your address.
UberEATS is made by the same team behind Uber: this isn’t some third-party developed app. It’s the real deal and it’s backed by the full Uber team. It’s currently rolling out all over the world.
Where is UberEATS Available?
UberEATS is currently rolling out to select cities and regions around the world. At the time of writing, the app was available in all of the following areas:
Atlanta, Austin, Brooklyn, Chicago, Columbus, Dallas, Edmonton, Houston, London, Los Angeles, Miami, New Haven, New York, Orange County, Philadelphia, Phoenix, San Diego, San Francisco Bay Area, Seattle, Singapore, Sydney, Paris, Melbourne, Washington, D.C, and multiple cities in Canada.
You can view an updated list of the available cities at the UberEATS.com FAQs section here.
How Does It Work?
UberEATS is as straightforward to use as Uber. Here’s how it works:
Step 1) You open the app and browse menus for local restaurants.
Step 2) Enter your order. You’ll see a total price that includes the food and delivery price. There’s no need to tip.
Step 3) You pay with your Uber account and wait for your order to come to you through the app.
So far, UberEATS has paired with hundreds of restaurants in the cities linked above. That number is growing every day, and UberEATS lets you sign up to become a restaurant partner at their official website here.
Using this system, UberEATS promises to give you the selection you want, the speed you need, and the service you’re used to with Uber.
In terms of speed, UberEATS is surprisingly fast. there’s an Instant Delivery option that can get food to you in as little as 10 minutes. Or, if you want to custom-order a dish from a local restaurant, then the average delivery time is 35 minutes.
All food is prepared in local restaurants and kitchens – the same way it would be prepared if you ordered an ordinary meal. You can also add special instructions to your order to let them know about any modifications you need.
After you place your order, you can follow along as your meal is prepared and track your delivery driver as he or she gets close to your address – just like you can with Uber. The interface is very similar.
After your food is delivered, there’s no need to tip your courier. You also have the ability to rate your experience – just like you can with Uber. Couriers can bring the meal right to your door or inside your office – or you can meet them at the curb.
How Does Instant Delivery Work?
Instant Delivery is the UberEATS service that can deliver food to your location in as little as 10 minutes. Most orders won’t arrive in 10 minutes, but you can potentially get it as soon as 10 minutes.
The Instant Delivery menu consists of a curated menu of 4 to 5 daily specials. It’s unclear if the Uber driver is waiting with these meals in the car, or if they’re ready-to-go at a local restaurant. In any case, you get the food as fast as possible.

What Do Customers Have to Say About UberEATS?
On both the Google Play Store and iTunes App Store, the UberEATS app currently has an average rating of 4 stars out of 5. There are a total of 8,329 votes on the Play Store, while there are just 193 votes on the iTunes app store.
Customers generally indicate a positive experience with the app. The vast majority of reviews are either 5 stars or 1 star – although we’ve seen the same with many mobile apps online. Customers either had a great experienced and wanted to share it with the world, or they had a poor experience and wanted to trash the app.
Some of the things we’ve learned after reading through hundreds of these reviews include:
-You get a selection of fixed-price menu items as well as desserts and beverages from which to choose. This menu selection is unique and isn’t the same menu you see on, say, a restaurant’s website. Uber has worked out special deals with these restaurants to offer their most popular dishes in a timely manner at a reasonable price.
-Uber adds a $3 delivery charge to your order. One reviewer ordered a $10 sandwich, a $5 coffee, and paid $19.35 total ($3 delivery fee plus $1.35 tax). That was for downtown Los Angeles.
-Some reviewers indicate they received their food in as little as 5 minutes
-Reviewers praise the box and packaging in which their orders arrive. Many restaurants have created their own unique delivery boxes that look pretty stylish. Inside the box, you’ll find packaged food items (one reviewer had a sandwich, chips, and edamame all separated into different Ziploc bags).
-You get $20 off your next order if there’s a significant delay
-Food delivery is only available during certain hours of the day. In London, for example, reviewers report that lunch, snacks, and dinner are available for delivery between 11am and 11pm, 7 days a week.
-One “catch” behind UberEATS is that you can’t order from restaurants across town. You’re assigned a certain area based on your geographic location, and you can only choose from restaurants in that area. This is to ensure a timely delivery process for all customers.
-You get an estimated delivery time and can track your driver as they approach your address. In some larger cities, like London, your Uber courier will be riding a bicycle
-You may have to go down to the curbside to pick up your UberEATS meal. Early reviews for UberEATS revealed that couriers could only wait outside and were not able to go up to office rooms or buildings.
-One review indicated that a meal from a restaurant in London cost £12.50, which was just £1 more than advertised on the restaurant’s website – so it’s not like the app is gouging you (at least based on this example)
Should You Download UberEATS?
UberEATS is a food delivery app competing in a crowded marketplace. However, it’s also the only app in the marketplace backed by the Uber brand name. Overall, reviews for UberEATS have been largely positive as it expands to cities around the world.
Using UberEATS is as easy as using Uber. You open the app, choose food from a selection of local restaurants, then wait for an average of 35 minutes for your food to be prepared and delivered to your address. Pricing is competitive, the meals are fresh, and you get to enjoy your favorite local food without leaving your office chair.
It’s Uber for delicious food. What more do you want?
