Despite what many people think, cellulite is a normal part of everyday life. You may not be able to fully avoid it, but you can find the best methods for treating it if you don’t want to let it stick around.
Cellulite is a condition where sections of skin can become dimpled or lumpy due to fat deposits which have formed just under the skin. The areas which are most commonly affected by cellulite are the thighs and buttocks. Generally, cellulite starts to show itself after puberty and is also often referred to as the orange peel effect because the dimpled and bumpy surface of the skin above the fat deposits resembles the peel of an orange.
According to statistic, it has been determined that about 90% of all women are affected by cellulite at some point in their life. This means that the majority of women will have to deal with it one way or another.
The Three Common Stages Of Cellulite
– Stage One: This is the stage during which cellulite is not visible on the surface. Anatomic changes have started to occur underneath the skin in affected areas.
– Stage Two: During this stage, you can see slight visual signs of cellulite. Primarily you will notice pastiness of the skin, lowered temperatures, and a lack of elasticity.
– Stage Three: In the final stage, the skin is clearly affected by cellulite and shows bumpiness as well as the orange peel effect.
Medically speaking, cellulite can be found in both sexes. However, it is way more common in women than in men. The reason for this is because of the types of connective tissue and variations of fat which are more likely to be found in women.
Although cellulite is a known issue and has been observed for a long time, the causes for its occurrence are still unclear. There are a few different theories as to why cellulite happens so frequently and in such a high percentage of women.
Hormones: Many scientists and doctors think that hormones play a key role in cellulite occurrence. They believe major hormones such as estrogen and insulin are a big part of cellulite creation.
Genetics: Certain genes have to be present in order for cellulite to develop. Furthermore, other genes may create a favorable genetic structure for cellulite to occur. Things like gender, slow metabolism, race, and circulation can all be a welcoming environment for cellulite.
Diet: This can play a huge role in cellulite development. People who consume too much fat, carbs, and sodium are usually more prone to cellulite occurring in their body. Lack of fiber can also be a big issue.
General Lifestyle: Those who smoke and don’t exercise regularly have a higher chance of developing cellulite. This is also true of people who sit or stand in the same spot for large amounts of time without moving.
So How Do You Get Rid Of Cellulite After You Have Noticed It Taking Over?
Well, the first step for most people is to lose weight and switch to a healthier diet. Both of these will certainly help, but they can be a bit tough to accomplish. For some of us losing weight can be a lot more difficult than for others due to our genetic makeup or other factors which influence weight gain and loss drastically. Eating healthy is definitely an option everyone should try, but sometimes it’s just not enough to get rid of that stubborn orange peel.
What Now?
Luckily, over the last few years, advancements in medical science have presented us with a variety of creams which we can use to help break down and eliminate cellulite for good. But because of how serious an issue cellulite is for so many women around the world, many shady companies have taken it upon themselves to create products which simply don’t work. Some of them claim to have miraculous properties that can do wonders for your cellulite problems in no time, but we found that nearly all of these products do not work.
Since the market is so highly saturated with these bogus creams, how can you make a decision on which ones may work for you? Fear Not, We Have The Answer
The Top Anti-Cellulite Creams In The Market
We did the hard work and research for you and were able to determine which of the anti-cellulite creams out there can really do the trick and help you get rid of this issue permanently. Here are the creams that we believe are the best on the market to prevent and treat cellulite.
Tanceuticals AC Self Tanning Cellulite Lotion
You may have noticed by the name that this is a dual-effect product. While it does help with cellulite management, it is also a tanning lotion which helps conceal the cellulite in the short term while the cream works over a longer period of time to make your skin feel silky smooth. One of the things that you will have to be careful with when using this lotion is that you will have to spread the lotion on your body evenly. Otherwise, you might end up with spots that aren’t covered properly and it might look a bit odd. So be diligent and take your time with this cream. The smell of this lotion is fantastic, including a hint of tropical coconuts which is a bit divine.
The price of this product is pretty good as well. A 4.2oz bottle costs $34.95, making the cost per ounce $8.32. Considering the huge benefits of the cream and seeing as it a dual-function item, this is very good price. In the end, we had to ask ourselves: does this cream get rid of cellulite? Well, the short answer is, “No”. But it will help your skin feel much better and conceal the cellulite really well, so in our book, it is definitely worth a try.
Clarins Body Lift Cellulite Control
This is a fantastic product to use if you are looking for long term effects. This is a lotion type product designed to fight cellulite which packs all sorts of ingredients to help you control that stubborn orange peel effect. The texture of the product is almost gel like with white coloring. It feels very smooth to the touch and very light. Since this is a lighter lotion, the application to the skin is very easy and it dries very quickly as well. This is wonderful for those of us who are constantly on the run.
The smell is a bit different than what you might be used to from white colored creams, which is generally something like coconut. This cream has an aroma of something like bath soap or something similar in that silky smooth kind of category. It’s a little hard to describe, but the closest comparison may be that it smells like a fresh bar of soap. After application, the smell mellows out and becomes very soothing and almost feathery, and is not overpowering at all.
The price of the cream is fairly affordable as well. A 6.9oz bottle is $69.00, which make the per ounce price $10, this isn’t the best price we have seen but is certainly on the lower half of the affordability scale.
Now let’s talk about effectiveness. The short term effect isn’t anything special: your skin will feel nice and smooth which we can expect from most lotions. However, the long-term effect is very visible and clear. You will notice a huge improvement in the area which was affected by cellulite. The skin looks much smoother and very well moisturized. It may not make the cellulite disappear completely, but its effects are reduced drastically. Many report that their cellulite becomes nearly invisible after using the lotion for only a few weeks. This product is very promising and we definitely suggest giving it a shot.
Nu Skin Dermatic Effects Body Contouring Lotion
The best part of this body lotion is the ingredients which were used to create it. They are very well known to help with cellulite and improve the smoothness of your skin. Furthermore, this cream has honey extract in it, which is well known for helping with exfoliation, something that a lot of people forget about when dealing with cellulite.
You might be wondering about the scent of the cream and we are happy to say it is very pleasant and citrus-like. Citrus lotions can be an issue if combined with menthol, but this cream doesn’t have any, and the outcome is wonderful. The texture of the cream is a bit off-putting, though. It is described as slightly lumpy and has a bit of an odd feel to it, but most are pleasantly surprised to find that the application process is a breeze and the cream dries really fast. This is usually uncommon for thicker lotions, but Nu Skin managed to pull it off without a hiccup. The cost of this product is again in the affordable range, coming in at $48.5 for a 5oz bottle. At $9.75 per ounce, this cream sits pretty firmly in the lower half of the price range.
The short term effect of the cream is a bit less visible than some of the other creams we have seen out there. Nonetheless, it manages to moisturize the skin the right amount and make it feel nice and smooth. After using it for about two weeks you will start to notice improved conditions around the cellulite areas. The effects of cellulite will diminish and the skin will feel a lot healthier and smoother, so in the long run, the product works. Overall, considering its smell, price, and effectiveness, this cream is a very good choice when attempting to take control of cellulite.
Adonia LegTone Serum
The company behind LegTone Serum may have been slightly aggressive with their claims when they stated that you will see a visible improvement to your cellulite areas within just 9 minutes. Regrettably, the only thing you are likely to see after 9 minutes is smooth and well-moisturized skin, as expected from any cream on the market. Be prepared: no magical cellulite disappearing acts are likely to take place. This is completely fine, though. We know that cellulite creams can’t make it disappear overnight.
The fragrance of this cream may remind you a bit of shampoo or body wash, which will fade to a nice warm scent over time. This was most likely the best smelling cream we looked at. The texture is great, too. The cream has a very light and silky feel, which blends with the skin really well. It does take a bit longer to dry than other creams we have come across, but not too terribly long. We will note that after about 5 minutes of use there may be a warm sensation on the skin where the product was applied, perhaps in an attempt to plump the skin up and make it feel smoother. This sort of works, but we were more impressed with the smoothness and the level of moisture that the cream delivers.
You will be happy with the long-term result the cream provides. The treated area will be well moisturized and very smooth, which reduces the effects of cellulite really well. Unfortunately, the price of this product is a bit on the high side. A 6oz bottle will set you back by $79.00, which is $13.16 per ounce. This is most likely due to the ingredients which were used to create the unnecessary warming sensation after application. If this is the type of feeling you are looking for then this cream is certainly for you. Otherwise, it will still do the job that it was meant to do but at a bit higher price point than we find necessary.
HydroPeptide Firming Moisturizer
Before we say anything else about this product, understand that this is designed to be an in-home treatment for cellulite, and is not necessarily something you want to put on right before going out. The main reason as to why this is the case is the smell of the product. While it isn’t terrible or completely off-putting, the smell is a bit odd. Some people like it, some do not. It is sort of a mix of strong citrus and something like green tea. Even though after a few moments the smell does mellow out and becomes a bit fresher and lighter, it still carries a vivid quality which can’t really be compared to anything else. Another reason why this is a use-at-home product is the extensive time it takes to dry after application, as long as about twenty minutes or so. This is definitely not an on-the-go type of lotion.
The texture is more of a gel type, which is great for application but because of how rich the cream is the time needed to blend it in is a bit high. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself rubbing this lotion in more than you are used to. The price is definitely on the expensive side with a 6.76oz bottle costing $120, which is $17.75 per ounce. This is certainly one of the more expensive products on the market. Perhaps the price is because of how effective it is?
In terms of short term results, not so much. The lotion moisturizes really well but it dries a bit sticky which make it hard to tell what type of an effect it has on your skin immediately. But the long term effect is rather fantastic. After repeat applications, this cream makes the skin very soft and smooth to the touch. The visible orange peel effect due to cellulite is diminished drastically, leaving the skin looking almost like there aren’t any bumps on it at all. We are truly amazed at the wonderful long term result this lotion has on cellulite targeted areas. Although the price is very high, we still deem it very worthy and effective.
SkinCeuticals Body Tightening Concentrate
Some people don’t like the different smells or scents which come with the use of cellulite creams. If you are one of these people then this cream is for you. It has virtually no scent! I know that this is a bit hard to believe, because nearly all other creams we have used have a distinct smell to them, but believe us when we say that this cream doesn’t smell like anything. We do want to note that straight out of the bottle it does have a hint of citrus to it, but after a few minutes all scent is gone and you can’t detect it anymore.
The other wonderful feature is that it dries extremely fast, which makes it perfect for on-the-go applications. The texture is much like a mixture between a cream and a gel, so not as smooth as a gel but also not nearly as thick as some creams can get. The bottle happens to be a pump, so application is very easy without any hassle involved.
The short term effect is great! The skin becomes well-moisturized, smooth, and silky. The feeling of the skin immediately after application is wonderful as well because you don’t experience the greasy feeling like you do with some of the other lotions out there. After a few weeks of use, you will notice that your skin is much smoother and softer than before, but unfortunately, cellulite will likely still be visible although a bit diminished.
The price point is a big negative for this cream. A 5oz bottle is priced at $78.00, which is $15 per ounce. This is the second most expensive product we looked at. Because the reduction in cellulite visibility isn’t that great, we can only recommend buying this product if you have the extra money to spend and want a product that does not have a strong scent. It isn’t a bad product but the makers are certainly proud of it and have decided to set the price way higher than what it has to offer.
Boots No7 Smooth & Improve Cellulite Treatment
If you are looking for something that is both affordable and effective, this is definitely the cream of choice. We simply love this product! The smell is something that I can’t imagine anyone complaining about. It’s fresh and very delightful. This is a big deal because a lot of cellulite creams miss out on this. The best part about the smell is that after a few minutes it actually gets better and even more pleasant. The texture is probably one of the best ones we have tried to date. It is white and silky, very similar to a gel.
However, this product isn’t completely without its drawbacks. For some unknown reason, the makers of No7 decided to attach a five-head roller type tip to the bottles end, as if we were planning to do some artsy patterns with the cream on our skin. Because of this, you have to roll the cream onto your skin. Many find this inconvenient, but afterward, the cream is very smooth to the touch and blends in with ease.
This product’s short term effects are great. The skin immediately feels soft and smooth and you get a sensation of healthier skin right away. The cream doesn’t get rid of cellulite instantly, but over extended use, you will see an improvement in the areas where you have cellulite. Expect your skin to feel silky soft, very smooth, and exceptionally well-moisturized.
The best thing about this cream is the price. A 5 oz bottle costs $19.99! This is a ridiculously low price of $3.99 per ounce. Considering how wonderful this cream is and its long-term effects, this is an absolute steal. If you can get over the weird five-head applicator, which wasn’t really that big of a deal, then this is the cream for you.
That’s about it! Obviously, we couldn’t research every single cream on the market, but we did read many reviews when deciding which creams would be the best to try. Overall, we do not think you would be disappointed with any of these creams. Some have better perks than others, but taking all things into consideration we determined that every one of these cream choices will have something to offer based on your individual priorities. So go ahead, give one of them a try and let us know your results!
