Wen Hair Care

Wen Hair Care

Wen Hair Care is a hair product company created by Chaz Dean, a Los Angeles stylist. According to Chaz’s official website, his client list “reads like a who’s who in Hollywood”.

What Is Wen Hair Care?

Chaz Dean has created his own lineup of conditioners, moisturizers, and other hair treatment products under the name Wen.

What is Wen? Should you try their hair care products?

Who is Chaz Dean?

Many of the people endorsing products online claim to be something they’re not. Chaz Dean says he has a client list that reads like a “who’s who” of Hollywood. But is he full of crap?

It’s tough to verify who Dean’s clients are, but he currently operates the Chaz Dean Studio, located at 6444 Fountain Avenue in Hollywood, California.

Haircuts start at $300 if you’re working with Chaz Dean. They cost $150 if you’re working with another stylist.

Chaz Dean has appeared at various Hollywood press events to promote his Wen Hair Care products. In 2012, his studio was chosen by CBS Los Angeles as one of “LA’s Best Beauty Salons.” He’s nowhere close to the top of Hollywood’s hair salon industry, but he’s a real Hollywood stylist.

What Does Wen Hair Care Sell?

Wen Hair Care sells a total of six different products. On the official online store, you’ll find those products separated into six different categories according to how they help your hair. Those categories are Cleanse, Hydrate, Protect, Style, Smooth, and Treat.

Cleansing Conditioner

Found under the “Cleanse” category, this conditioner uses a 5-in-1 formula to strengthen and moisturize your hair. Key ingredients include chamomile extract, glycerin, rosemary extract, and sweet almond oil. It’s designed to cleanse your hair without stripping away its natural oils, which should provide better color retention and overall hair health.

Re Moist Intensive Hair Treatment

This hair mask is specially designed to hydrate your hair, making it softer and more manageable. It’s made using “moisturizing botanical extracts”, hydrolyzed proteins, shea butter, and sweet almond oil.

Anti-Frizz Styling Cream

Specially designed to provide up to 8 hours of frizz control, the Anti-Frizz Styling Cream uses ingredients like panthenol, glycerin, and propylene glycol to moisturize, shine, and style the hair. It promises “up to 95% less breakage after just one use.”

Nourishing Mousse

Built for all hair types, the Wen Hair Care Nourishing Mousse plumps up the hair to give it better volume, body, shine, and hold. Key ingredients include moisturizing botanical extracts and sweet almond oil.

Straitening Smoothing Gloss

“Kick unruly hair to the curb” using Wen Hair Care’s Straightening Smoothing Gloss. This gloss aims to leave hair with a healthy, vibrant shine while reducing frizz and smoothing out kinks.

Replenishing Treatment Mist

Revitalize your hair in between cleansings with this mist: just spray on your hair when you need a refresher, and the spray will provide better volume and fullness. Key ingredients include sweet almond seed cake, botanical extracts, and a “Super Fruit Complex.”

How to Use Wen Hair Care

The Wen Hair Care official website is surprisingly helpful towards customers. It’s packed with free information about styling your hair and using Wen Hair Care products.

Follow the instructions listed with whichever product you’re purchasing from the Wen Hair Care online store. You can view instructions by clicking “Learn How to Use” at the bottom of the product description.

Buying Wen Hair Care Online

Buying Wen Hair Care is relatively straightforward: you can order the products from the official store. Or, you can order them from QVC.com – the shopping channel website. You can also order them from the shopping channel itself.

You may also be able to find Wen Hair Care products from retailers like Sephora or your local hair salon.

When ordering online, there are two main options: you can buy the Wen Hair Care Basic Kit for $29.95 or the Wen Hair Care Deluxe Kit for $39.95.

The basic kit includes the Cleansing Conditioner and the Anti-Frizz Styling Crème, while the Deluxe Kit includes the Cleansing Conditioner, the Anti-Frizz Styling Crème, the Replenishing Treatment Mist, and the Straightening Smoothing Gloss.

Wen Hair Care Pricing

Wen Hair Care appears to be competitively priced. The Basic Kit costs $30 for 4 beauty products, while the Deluxe Kit costs $40. Single products are priced in a similar way. Both the kits also come with two free gifts including the Wen Re Moist and the Wen Mousse.

But there’s a big catch to this pricing policy: when you order an item, any item, from the Wen Hair Care online store, you’re automatically agreeing to an autoship program.

That autoship program is listed in the fine print below the ordering form. It says the following:

“Approximately 30 days after your first order is shipped, and then approximately every 3 months thereafter, you will be sent a new extra-large supply of WEN® Hair Care. For each extra-large supply sent to you, you will be charged three monthly payments of $39.95 plus $4.99 for shipping and handling, which will conveniently be charged to the card you provide today unless you call to cancel.”

That price jumps to $119.85 plus $14.97 shipping and handling when you’re buying certain larger cosmetic kits.

You can call to cancel at any time. You can also return your products through the mail for a refund. Many customers, however, have complained that their refunds never arrived, or that Wen Hair Care claims to have never received their returns.

Wen Hair Care Customer Reviews

When you look up reviews for Wen Hair Care online, you’ll see two types of reviews: the reviews on Yelp for his hair salon, which are overwhelmingly positive; and the reviews on Consumer Affairs for the hair product lineup, which are overwhelmingly negative.

Yelp

On Yelp, Wen Hair Care has a rating of 4.5 stars out of 5 after 74 reviews. Customers are overwhelmingly positive towards Chaz Dean and his salon. They praise the friendly staff members and mention several stylists by name. Some of the customers on Yelp also claim they’ve never visited Chaz Dean’s salon because it’s “too expensive”, but really enjoy the Wen Hair Care products.

Consumer Affairs

On ConsumerAffairs.com, reviewers are not nearly as friendly towards Chaz or his hair products. An alarming number of the reviews say that the products have caused hair loss “by the handful.”

Other customers complained that their refunds took too long to process, or they weren’t offered a refund at all. Many of the complaints also discuss the problematic “autoship” program, which ships new orders of Wen Hair Care products to your doorstep every month whether you want them or not – while also charging your credit card over $100. You’re automatically signed up for this autoship program when you order the Wen Hair Care “free” trial or any Wen Hair Care products.

Conclusion: Who Should Use Wen Hair Care?

Chaz Dean is a legitimate Hollywood hair stylist. However, his hair care products have generated a storm of criticism. Some people claim the products are causing their hair to fall out. Others claim that they’ve received more products than they wanted due to the expensively misleading “autoship” program.

If you can navigate your way through the pricing policies and find the products you’re looking for, then Wen Hair Care appears to offer good value. The Basic and Deluxe Kits comes with 4 and 6 different beauty products, costing just $30 or $40, respectively.

That’s a cheaper price than you’ll find for many beauty products online. At this price range, Wen Hair Care may be worth a try: just make sure you call to cancel if you don’t like the products. Otherwise, you could be left with hundreds of dollars in charges for Wen Hair Care products you don’t want to use.
