Soma – Beautiful & Sustainable Water Filters

Soma Review – Does It Work?

Soma is a company that specializes in creating water filters that fit a variety of different containers, while being aesthetically pleasing. Here is our review.

What is Soma?

Soma is a company that specializes in creating water filters that fit a variety of different containers, while being aesthetically pleasing. The company’s product list is small, which is helpful for consumers who are overwhelmed with too many options. The majority of the company goals seem to focus on a simple but beautiful design, allowing consumers to treat the carafe and pitcher as another addition to their kitchenware, rather than just a method of getting fresh and clean water.

The website offers multiple instructional videos to show consumers the proper way to wash and rinse each of the pieces, which is above and beyond what most other websites for water filters do for the consumer.

The Soma Carafe

The Soma Carafe has an hourglass design, which is shatterproof and holds 48 ounces of water. You have the option of either prepaying for your filters, or you can receive an automatic charge for filters every 2 months for replacements. Caring for the carafe is fairly easy, since you can place everything in the top rack of the dishwasher. With the Soma carafe, you receive:

· 1 glass Soma carafe

· 1 donation to charity: water with every filter

· 1, 6, or 12 filters, depending on your particular order.

The Soma Pitcher

The Soma Pitcher has a white-oak handle, coconut shell carbon and a plant-based casing, which holds up to 80 ounces of water at once. Like the Soma Carafe, you have the same subscription option for your filters. However, the Soma Pitcher needs to be delicately hand-washed, and you need to apply mineral oil to the handle to prevent the finish from coming off. With the Soma Pitcher, you receive:

· 1 BPA-free plastic Soma Pitcher

· 1 donation to charity: water with every filter

· 1, 6, or 12 filters, depending on your particular order.

Replacement Filters

Luckily, you only have to replace the filter for every 40 gallons of water passed through any filter. When your filter needs to be changed, you can either purchase a new filter directly, or you can wait for your delivery of new filters every two months for $12.99. Each filter is certified by the NSF/ANSI Standard 42 requirements for the reduction of chlorine, taste and odor.

How Does Soma Work?

The water filter is made of very simple ingredients, which is supposed to minimize the company’s and the consumer’s carbon footprint. Other companies use petroleum-based plastic filter cartridges, but the Soma filter is a plant-based filter, which also uses coconut shells to create the natural and absorbent carbon.

You don’t need to go to the store to get new filters; each package is delivered straight to your door. The company even offers free delivery for filters.

When you fill the carafe or pitcher, chlorine and odors are removed, giving you clean water.

How to Use Soma

Though the process may seem complicated, using the products made by Soma are actually very easy. All you have to do is open the top of whichever container you have, fill it up, and allow the water to flow through the filter, into the rest of the container.

That’s all you have to do. If you want fresh water, just pour it out into a glass. The only time you need to change anything is when the filter is ready to be switched out, which is approximately two months.

Pricing for Soma

Each water filter is a different price, since they are available in different sizes for each of the two products.

The Soma Carafe is priced at $49, if you are getting one filter with it. The price raises as you increase the amount of filters you want in your original package. The Carafe is reusable.

The Soma Pitcher is $39.00. Like the Carafe, the price raises as you increase the amount of filters you want in your original package. The pitcher is reusable.

If you need a replacement filter for either design, the lowest filters are about $10. If you enroll in a subscription for receiving your filters, you can save additional money. No shipping fees are charges, when you reorder filters. Since the filters can be used multiple times, the price is comparable for other water filters.

The Makers of Soma

The core group of contributors to the creation of Soma is made up of eight team members. According to the makers of Soma, the product was created for five different reasons:

1. An unsatisfactory selection of water filters available. The makers state other water filters have “too much plastic,” “too many chemicals,” and are “too ugly.”

2. A desire to make a water filter that is “beautiful, functional, and simple.”

3. A desire to help with the global water crisis

4. A drive to make the environment safer, without contributing to the pollution

5. A desire to help people have a “happy, healthy, and well hydrated life.”

David Beeman is the designer of the filter. He has been involved in the production of filters for companies like Starbucks, Peet's, and Keurig.

Overall, Soma filters are a beautiful and effective way to filter out unwanted flavors and chemicals from wherever you get your water. The price may be fairly high, but the construction of the filter is eco-friendlier than other filters out there, which is what you’re spending extra money to get.
