What is PrimoMind Maverick?
Over the last few years, we’ve seen an explosion in the growth of cognitive supplements – also known as nootropics.
PrimoMind’s new “mental support formula”, Maverick, joins a crowded field of health supplements that all promise to boost your cognition in various ways.
Maverick promises three benefits in particular, including:
- Improves cognitive functions
- Promotes happiness
- Sharpens the mind
The name Maverick, according to PrimoMind, was chosen because it refers to “a lone dissenter, as an intellectual…who takes an independent stand apart from his or her associates.”
The supplement is available to purchase online today at a price of around $13 for a pack of 60 capsules – which is very competitive compared to other nootropics available for purchase online and in-store today.
How Does Maverick Work?
Maverick uses similar ingredients to other nootropic formulas on the market, including a mix of amino acids, botanical extracts, and lab-derived formulas.
Key ingredients in the formula include vanadyl sulfate, L-glutamine, N-acetyl L-tyrosine, bacopa monnieri, boron, and choline bitartrate – at least, these are the ingredients listed on the main sales page for Maverick.
The amino acids – including L-glutamine and N-acetyl- L-tyrosine – all enhance blood flow to your brain while also being used by your nervous system to transport neurotransmitters.
Meanwhile, minerals like boron help to build muscle and maintain strong bones.
Vanadyl sulfate is one ingredient we don’t see in many other nootropic formulas. PrimoMind has added it to the formula because it “helps muscle cells with glucose uptake” and “helps forces more protein, amino acids, and carbohydrates directly into muscles”. They don’t explain the connection it has with cognitive health.
PrimoMind does have a “Resources” page at its official website, although it’s mostly filled with editorial information about the value of brain health.
It has no scientific studies explaining the benefits of the ingredients listed, nor does it link to any clinical trials or further evidence.
We appreciate when manufacturers give extensive information about the ingredients in their formulas.
During our independent research on vanadyl sulfate, we found that it’s just a stable form of vanadium – a unique type of trace mineral we usually get from mushrooms or shellfish.
Scientists believe that vanadium plays a critical role in building healthy bones and teeth. There’s also some evidence that vanadyl sulfate “has an insulin-like effect in the body, stimulating glucose uptake and its oxidation in the cells”, explains DrWhitaker.com.
Vanadyl sulfate is typically taken in average doses of 100 to 150mg. At these doses, it’s been shown to reduce your average fasting blood sugar 20% better than a placebo.
Other studies have promoted vanadyl sulfate’s effects on bodybuilders, as it forces more proteins and amino acids into muscles. You can buy vanadyl sulfate as a standalone bodybuilding supplement.
We couldn’t find any major studies on the cognitive effects of vanadyl sulfate – which is worrying considering that vanadyl sulfate is the first listed ingredient.

The ingredients listed above vary widely from the ingredients that are actually reported on the Maverick ingredients label.
The ingredients label piles most of the nootropic ingredients into one proprietary formula called the “Proprietary Blend”.
There’s 692mg of this blend in each serving. The leading ingredients are DMAE Bitartrate, green tea extract, GABA, grape seed extract, and cinnamon bark extract.
None of these ingredients are listed on the official sales page for Maverick – which is odd, to say the least.

If you’ve spent more than a few minutes researching nootropics online, then you know how important dosages are.
When manufacturers bundle all of their ingredients into one proprietary formula, and then refuse to disclose the individual dosage of each ingredient, it makes it difficult to determine how much of each ingredient you’re putting into your body.
DMAE, for example, is typically taken at a minimum dose of 300mg per day. How much of the 692mg “Proprietary Blend” is made up of DMAE? We don’t know – so we don’t know how effective Maverick is expected to be.
Ultimately, the lack of individual ingredient dosages isn’t a big deal because of the low price of Maverick – but it’s still something to be aware of.
Based on the ingredients listed above, Maverick seems like a decent multivitamin mixed with small amounts of nootropics – which isn’t that bad of a deal at this price range.
