Nima Gluten Tester Sensor – Pocket-Sized Food Test Device?

Nima Gluten Tester Sensor

Nima is a pocket-sized gluten sensor that makes it easy to discreetly test your food for gluten. Here’s our Nima review.

What Is Nima Gluten Tester Sensor?

Nima Gluten Tester Sensor is the world’s first pocket-sized gluten sensor. You place a tiny sample of food into the sensor, then learn within 3 minutes if it’s really gluten-free.

The device relies on single-user capsules. Those capsules contain a unique chemistry that will display whether or not your food contains gluten.

Once you’ve completed a test with Nima Gluten Tester Sensor, you can add your results to the Nima app. Nima has a community of users who sync and share all test results within the app, letting you easily see if there are good gluten-free options near you.

Nima launched in fall of 2016. You can buy Nima online today for around $280.

How To Use Nima

Step 1) Take a tiny sample of food, then put it into one of your single-use capsules. Then, put the capsule in your Nima. The capsules come pre-loaded with Nima’s proprietary chemistry “and are ready to go as soon as you are”. There’s no need to clean, reset, or refill.

Step 2) Within about 3 minutes, Nima will tell you if there’s 20ppm or more of gluten in your food sample.

Step 3) Examine your test results. You can use the app to share your Nima data with the world, helping others stay one step ahead of gluten. Or, you can just keep your test results to yourself.

About Nima Gluten Tester Sensor

Nima’s goal, according to the company’s About page, is to enable people “to be their healthiest selves by giving them the power to know what’s in their food”.

The company was founded by Shireen Yates and Scott Sundvor, both of whom have “long struggled with various food allergies and sensitivities and were tired of always wondering if food was safe to eat.”

The pair met at MIT in 2013. They won the audience choice award at the MIT $100K Accelerate competition in 2013, then moved to the Bay Area to raise funding. By fall of 2016, Nima had begun to ship orders.

You can contact the company by email at support@nimasensor.com or by phone at 1-844-646-2969. Their office is at 2121 Harrison Street in San Francisco.

Should You Buy Nima Gluten Tester Sensor?

Nima is a portable gluten testing machine that detects if your food or liquid has more than 20 parts per million of gluten.

You place a food or liquid sample in a special capsule, then place the capsule in your Nima machine. The machine gives you a result within 3 minutes.

You can use Nima just for your own personal use, helping you remember where to eat and what types of food to buy.

However, Nima users are encouraged to share their food testing results with the app’s community, helping to build a network of highly-accurate gluten-free data around the world.

Nima launched in fall of 2016, so it’s still a relatively new product. However, it’s popular among those who are gluten-free, and is available to purchase online today for $279.
