About Kombucha Dog
After 25 years of being a highly successful photographer, Michael Faye was looking for a life change. As a lifelong dog lover, Michael decided that he wanted to combine his enthusiasm for animal welfare with the love that dogs can inspire in people's lives. With his rescue comrade Charlie, he decided to begin the journey to Kombucha Dog.
Raised in holistic traditions and values, Michael had grown up believing and practicing the raw food movement. Practicing yoga regularly and staying fit and active, he learned about the health benefits of kombucha and his interest began to grow. After discovering that kombucha was no longer readily available for purchase, he decided to take action and brew his own. Soon after, he was getting requests from friends and family, wanting his kombucha brew.
Once he realized that he would be able to brew the only traditional fermented kombucha on the market and use the shelf space to help orphaned dogs find homes, the idea for Kombucha Dog was born. After a year of trying over 200 different teas and building a brewery from the ground up, Michael discovered how full make an exquisite, full potency kombucha. Since the start of the business, Kombucha Dog had helped place over 100 dogs in their permanent homes.
It took Michael over three years to build the Kombucha Dog facility in Los Angeles but the company has been in production for over two and a half years. To make their unique beverage, Kombucha Dog features a variety of flavors from cold-pressed juice from mint, ginger, or berries, which is then added to the second fermentation. As resources grow, the company will continue to expand to include even more flavors.
How Kombucha Dog Works
When properly brewed, kombucha is a delicious, naturally carbonated, low sugar, fermented beverage that is nutrient rich in powerful antioxidants and probiotic. The secret of kombucha begins with the fermentation process. Beginning with high quality, large leaf, organic tea, it is first boiled, cooled, and then raw, organic sugar is added. Because the sweetened tea contains yeast and bacteria, which allows it to ferment, they like the nitrogen in the tea as well as the minerals in the water. Once it is fermented, the probiotics, gluconic acid, and acetic acid are powerful antioxidants.
The authentic preparation for kombucha mixes one gallon of tea with one cup of sugar. If fermented long enough, the traditional recipe will result in a beverage that contains approximately 6 grams of sugar per 8 ounces of unsweetened tea. Containing approximately 1.4 ABV, according to U.S law, Kombucha Dog is considered an alcoholic beverage. By diluting the kombucha by 60-70%, Kombucha Dog named sure that the beverage is below the legal limit of 0.5% ABV. Although diluted, the recipe still guarantees that Kombucha Dog still contains 100% of the antioxidants and probiotics found in the tea.
All of the ingredients in Kombucha Dog's kombucha are hand chosen and of the highest quality. Only using organic tea, raw turbinado sugar, and cold pressed juices, Kombucha Dog is organic, non-pasteurized, gluten-free, vegan, BPA-free, and non-GMO.
