What Is Evolution Brush?
The Evolution Brush is a shaving brush designed with an adaptor to fit on any can of shaving cream or gel product in order to make it easier and less messy to apply lather to your face or other body parts prior to shaving.
The product, which is still accepting funding through its Kickstarter page, will be available in a multitude of colors, including Black, Wood Grain, Carbon Fiber, American Flag, Camo, Pink Camo, Cheetah, and Purple Cheetah.
Evolution Brush Features
The Evolution Brush replaces the top of any standard shaving cream or gel can. Users simply remove the applicator cap from their shaving product (facilitated by the cap remover built into the bottom of the Evolution Brush) and replace it with the product.
Once secured, depressing the cap will release shaving product into the Evolution Brush, allowing users to lather their face using the brush end.
This is advantageous, according to the product’s Kickstarter page, in several ways. First, it’s much less messy than applying shaving cream or gel with your bare hands; and second, using the shaving brush stimulates and lifts your hair follicles, which exfoliates your skin and reduces razor bumps and burns.
Evolution Brush Creators
The Evolution Brush was developed by Legacy Shave, a company created by Dave and Mike Gutow, two brothers based in Royal Oak, Michigan.
In addition to developing and marketing the Evolution Brush, Legacy Shave offers classic safety razors, pre-shave oils, after-shave balms, and gift sets containing all of its products.
Evolution Brush Materials
The Evolution Brush is made from ABS plastic and features synthetic nylon bristles, which provide long-lasting performance if cared for properly. Legacy Shave recommends simply rinsing the bristles after every shave before shaking off the excess water.
Evolution Brush Pricing
Pricing for Legacy Shave’s Evolution Brush is dependent on how much you’re willing to pledge to become a Kickstarter backer.
Right now, there are 47 spots open to pledge at the $20 level, which will provide you with 1 Evolution Brush in your choice of color, shipped anywhere in the world. Once these spots are filled, the price of a single Evolution Brush will rise to a $22 pledge.
The more you put towards backing the project, the more perks you receive. At certain thresholds you can obtain multiple Evolution Brushes ($38 or $42), or even whole Legacy Shave shaving kits, complete with an Evolution Brush ($63 or $65).
Fulfillment is scheduled for August of 2017.
Evolution Brush Reviews
As the Evolution Brush has not entered production yet, there’s no customer feedback for this particular product. However, Legacy Shave does have other products available; we’ve looked at these products to get a better idea of the type of reputation the company has in general.
Pros:
Solid Product Line – Legacy Shave’s existing product line is solid, offering not just shavers but also pre- and post-shave lotions and balms.
Egalitarian – The company stresses that Legacy Shave, and by extension the Evolution Brush, is meant for not just men’s shaving needs but women’s needs as well.
Cons:
Unproven Product – The Evolution Brush is an unproven product, considering it’s a crowdfunded Kickstarter product.
Evolution Brush Summary
From all indications, the Evolution Brush is set to become one of Kickstarter’s many success stories, based on backer response. If anything, this is a good indication of at least the perceived quality of the product.
As of this writing the Evolution Brush campaign, which has 22 days to go, has already garnered more than $6500 in pledges, blowing away its $2500 crowdfunding goal. This indicates that people believe this product is going to deliver on its promises.
As far as price versus performance, spending anywhere between $20-$22 on a shaving brush that automatically lathers as you use represents rather good value. The creators say that these brushes also last a long time, as they personally have been using the same brushes for around 8 months straight with no loss of quality.
If you’re willing to wait until August of 2017 for your own brush, pledging anywhere from $20-$22 is likely a good deal. Pledges are open until May 31, 2017, so don’t miss your window if you want one.
