EOS Lip Balm Review

EOS Lip Balm is a lip balm endorsed by Kim Kardashian, Britney Spears, and other celebrties. The lip balm is made by a company named Evolution of Smooth. Here’s our review.

What is EOS Lip Balm?

EOS Lip Balm is a lip balm that comes in an egg-shaped container. You unscrew the top of the lip balm and spread it onto the sensitive skin around your lips.

The lip balms come with major celebrity endorsements by Kim Kardashian, Britney Spears, and others. One reason why the lip balms are popular is because they use natural ingredients – like shea butter and vitamins. Together, these ingredients promise to help you nourish your lips.

There are several different types of EOS Lip Balm, including lip balm that comes in the egg-shaped containers as well as several varieties in the “Smooth Stick” containers.

In addition to lip balm, Evolution of Smooth creates body care products like hand and body lotion and shave cream.

How Does EOS Lip Balm Work?

EOS Lip Balm claims to use ingredients like shea butter, vitamin C, and vitamin E to give your lips the nourishment they need.

Like most lip balms, you glide the formula across your lips to provide instant relief.

The formula is gluten-free, paraben-free, petrolatum-free, and phthalate-free.

Other key ingredients include stevia leaf extract, acai berry, and other botanicals.

EOS Lip Balm Ingredients

EOS Lip Balm comes with all of the following ingredients:

January 2016 Lawsuits Against EOS Lip Balm

In January 2016, reports start to emerge that some of the ingredients in EOS lip balms can cause customers to break out in sores.

This led to lawsuits across America.

One Suffolk County, New York woman sued EOS claiming the product gave her “sores, rashes and blisters on her lips and mouth”, according to a report by the NY Post.

That woman is part of a class action lawsuit in New York. Earlier in January, another class action lawsuit was filed against EOS in California.

In the California class action, plaintiff Rachael Cronin claims that she was drawn to the product in a Target store because it comes in a “bright red pod container.”

That plaintiff then developed “devastating adverse reactions” lasting from a few days to a few months. After applying the product the day she bought it, Cronin claims her lips became “substantially dry and coarse” like sandpaper.

She applied more hoping that it would solve the problem, when in reality, her lips

“did not become smooth, and began severely racking on the edges causing flaking and bleeding form the cracks. By the next day, Ms. Cronin’s lips and surrounding skin area had severe blistering and rashes causing her to seek medical care.”

EOS has released a statement about the lawsuits in California and New York. That statement was given to Legal Newsline and can be read here. In the statement, EOS says:

“Our products are made with the highest quality ingredients and meet or exceed all safety and quality standards set out by our industry and validated by rigorous testing conducted by an independent lab. The health and well-being of our customers is our top priority and millions of satisfied customers use our products every day, many of whom take the time to share their experiences with us.”

The company added that all of the ingredients used in the EOS products are safe and approved for use by the FDA and are in “full compliance” with all food labeling and testing standards.

EOS also emphasized that it sold “several million lip balms” last month in the United States while receiving 40 complaints, which is a “complaint rate of 0.001 percent.” 35 of those customers agreed to receive coupons for replacement products while the other 5 customers haven’t been heard from.

Stay tuned as this lawsuit keeps moving forward.

  1. I used my daughters EOS lip balm that I bought from Target yesterday, and awoke with tiny blisters on my lips. I hand never heard of such a thing until I started asking my friend questions. I’m not happy about it. It’s alarming at best.

  2. I recently had a bad reaction to the EOS lip balm, my lips are currently swollen, dry ,and cracked at the edges. They also bleed a little when I speak. I am incredibly disappointed in this product and would not advise anyone to purchase it.

  3. Even all natural, organic products can cause reactions if you are allergic to any of the ingredients. A friend of mine contacted EOS because she had a reaction and found that the tocopherols in the product are wheat derived so if you are gluten intolerant you could react to the product. Some people have known or unknown allergies to shea, coconut, or any of the other ingredients. I avoid EOS myself because of gluten intolerance and allergies to some common natural scents and flavors added to many products these days. I encourage people to read labels and if you regularly have reactions to products, get tested for allergies.
